Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Why would anyone believe a word out of CEO’s mouth?

How many times did he insist, to the point of actually getting angry about being asked, that there were going to be no more layoffs? “Look, how many more times do I have to say this?…no more layoffs.”.

Well, except for the 2100 we’re tossing after all the overtime they’ve put in to the integration. But they don’t count, I suppose.

This company has been all about layoffs since 2015. It’s been literally a constant threat. I’ve literally lost count of how many rounds.

This was a reverse takeover. Only at cenovus would they acquire a company and then proceed to sacrifice their own.

Education nowadays is a 'secondary' investment
having a dad who is a manager or CEO is a sweet deal
those who are relatives, buddies etc. get the best priviledge
This is all disgusting

I think the CEO’s daughter is already a Specialist. Others work at least 10+ years to climb to that level.

I doubt she worries about losing her job each round?

Some Directors and VPs will not be able to get a job outside Cenovus because a “must have” is at least Bachelor’s degree.

I know of a director who thinks that listening to a podcast or watching a YouTube video replaces the lack of his education. (IT)

The nepotism here is just brutal. Woefully unqualified people getting VP and Director roles. It’s laughable.

I wonder if have the worst C suite team in town? We are going from bad to worse. The next level of leadership is not any better. They are trying to survive no matter what and the behavior cascades down. We just need well seasoned, experienced and qualified leaders. I can’t learn from a “manager” with no people skills, no credibility or education ☹️.

Indeed. You spend more time under the threat of layoffs than not. Layoffs end, there’s a brief reprieve, but you know another round is imminent. Obviously the oil crash meant jobs would be most. But no other energy company has consistently had the rounds of layoffs CVE has. It’s absurd. It’s a sign of p*ss poor management and terrible decision making.
