Impact of attrition

As for this company, it seems to me that the leadership does not think much about the business impact of people leaving in droves. I am interested in how it will affect my work while I am here. Is there anyone for whom attrition already affects their work a lot?

In a recent virtual town hall meeting, a senior executive acknowledged that attrition rates were rather high. For the very first time, I heard a senior management person acknowledging that fact.

However he mentioned that Mother Mining is bringing lot of new new world class talent.

It seems to me that the dam is broken and leaking water at a alarmingly high rate and instead of repairing the dam, the engineer in charge is adding more water

come on guys...wake up !!!

It will take a new person a couple of years to realize that this company has very little to offer in terms of career growth and development and he / she will look for greener pastures in year 3 / 4 after joining.

Fix the dam ....like now!

I just turned 50 and my life priorities have changed as well. I am no longer worried about not meeting the Op plan. Just waiting out to collect my retirement funds. Let the SVP/VP/Dir worry.

My boss just used the name of Advance 3M and combine the job responsibilities from 4 into 2.
Unfortunately i am one of the 2 holding it.
A3M sucks!

I've been with 3M for 11 years and they have taken good care of me. My manager is coo and the work I do is meaningful. There are many internal processes that are broken, I think people should be engaged much more and it's management's fault, etc. But when I add all of this up my experience is still positive. Now, I am in my late 40s and my priorities may be different if compared to somene who needs to learn and grow. For that to happen, try to avoid 3M and find a smaller place where you'll be exposed to more things in somewhat shorter period of time.

3M has mastered the art of letting people go, particularly those that have seniority and are high priced help. It seems to be an annual event at 3M anymore. It is my opinion that this is why they still need to maintain an HR department because what else do they do other than protect the VP's from doing something or saying something stupid?

I saw they are hiring from external for the SVP positions.. Looks like not much talent remain in company for those who stayed.

I see similar numbers to @egz+1d7IDOe7 for my department, roughly 20% headcount cut. Only a few hired, less than 5%, to replace critical losses. The vice president (former director title) is powerless to do anything to stop the bleeding.

My division will be the most profitable it has ever been on near-record sales but still the cuts keep coming. People are burning out and any serious employee recognition efforts are prevented in the name of COGS reduction.

Word around the virtual water cooler is that 25%+ of the remaining employees are actively looking for new jobs. Very few people are even applying for the scarce few jobs that are approved for hiring.

Attrition has affected our group bigly ! We went from about 50 personnel at year end 2020 to just above 40 now. Group manager is desperate to hire, however hiring freeze is in place.
