Thread regarding Pembina Pipeline Corp layoffs

How do they evaluate the work of managers?

I know how they evaluate my work, but I don’t know how they evaluate the work of my manager. He is a person who, in my opinion, should've never become a manager.

People are leaving more and more, the atmosphere is worse than ever, but he is still there. If I did my job the way he does his, I would have been fired a long time ago.

Over the last 3-4 years managers and senior managers have been playing for time with VPs and up. A trip to the c-suite is prized more than getting into the field and actually know what the business is an how it is done.

As a manager if you can get in good with a VP/SVP you can stamp your ticket. If you don't have time to play the game (oh I don't know cause you have a young family) don't expect to go far.

Post below about the guy leading his team of deplorables and facing discrimination is accurate. Cheers to whoever posted that publicly as no one addresses it internally. PS. Pembina sucks

It's not only about playing the game but being "like them." There is a team here who had an internal debate with hr (who sided with them) about not hiring a qualified individual who happened to be black and was a frontrunner for the job. The teams senior mid-et staff member in grand prairie was genuinely worried about how field staff would perceive them/him with a person of color leading the charge or even heaven forbid visit the field. The manager and hr brought the issue to the VP who told them all to stop being racist, grow up, and hire the guy. Even this week, they were undermining him. Only a matter of time until he is passive aggressively bullied into resignation or layoff. Totally serious. This guy has double the IQ of any person on his team. Any garbage Pembina puts out about inclusiveness is nonsense with them simply checking a box. It's a company that has racist undertones that is quietly tolerated. Fu-k this company.

Sounds like your manager is a card carrying member of the Pembina Old Boys Club. Golf and drink with your superiors and you will be part of the fraternity and taken care of.. no matter how terrible you are. In fact, the more terrible you are as a person and at your job the higher your career trajectory will be at Pembina. LOL

My manager is completely redundant and if you got rid of him today, you could do minor re-org and it would be business as usual on Monday. Of course he won't be let go ever because he is a sycophant yes-man to his superiors (nose is permanently brown.) It's hard to not let your eyes roll out of your head when he speaks to them in front of us.

I know many talented and natural leaders here who would do a phenomenal job in a leadership role but they can't stomach playing the whole game at Pembina.

To the post below, I'm sure I know who you are speaking of. Shame he was let go.

Sounds like we could have had the same manager.

In my experience, they appear to evaluate the managers on how much they suck up and shaft the people who report to them. This is a company that celebrates incompetence, dishonesty and unprofessionalism.

We had a really good manager in GBU that looked after his people, took those that did not do their work to task, and he wasn't a suck-up. He was packaged out in the layoffs in April of last year. The second manager in our BU who falls under the criteria in my paragraph above is still there.
