Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Attrition is part of the leadership plan

The high attrition is what ExxonMobil senior leaders want. This is part of their plan and they want you to resign and leave. The headcount must shrunk with the EM footprint and importance of our company as we decline. We want to reduce operating expense so less people must go.

If they didn’t want people to leave, they would have tried stem the high attrition. The fact that they haven’t tried anything means they want people to leave. The HR decisions have been supremely poor but well thought out and hence they want people to realise that EM do not value people.

What they haven’t realised yet is the good people will be the first out.

Leadership thought there may be some attrition this year, but they can absolutely not take any credit for being on top of this and predicting what has been happening. If you hear or think that, it’s complete arrogance and typical. This company is losing amazing people left and right and they are NOT poor performers. These are outstanding people CHOOSING to leave. There is zero direction and leadership and despite I’m sure good intentions, which they are just doing what has traditionally worked for them, the company is failing. Don’t believe the fake news and talking points. Watch as the people that actually do the work leave.

Attrition is a part of business, but the rates that XOM is experiencing is a result of systemic bad management. With the extremely high attrition, XOM is even more top heavy than before. XOM has the highest ratio of management to workers than any company in manufacturing. Look around, how many “managers” do you directly or indirectly report to? I’ll start a survey, how many managers do you report to?

I report to 16.

People whining on site about EM and spewing dire warnings to others about staying should leave themselves. Probably they are not talented enough to venture out to bigger and better opportunities themselves 🤣

There are no exxon employees, all are contractors with a one year contract. Have money put aside because your contract may not be renewed next year.

i've been ranked "very good" twice and after spending all my working life in EM, i am now dreading the day when NSI will be my ranking result. on the other hand, i might pay off my mortgage by then.

They ranked several great employees NSI this past year and there’s no safety in knowing good employees, doing their jobs, will not fall into that dreaded bucket next year.

Those thinking of coming to XOM should think long and hard about getting into a deal with the devil.
