Cisco's Board decided many years ago, during Chambers last years, that strong leadership within the company was actually a detriment to their goal of milking the customer base with poor quality products and services. The strong leaders that were at Cisco weren't willing to consistently overpromise and underdeliver so they left or were moved aside as they tried to stand up for the customer base and their teams.

It's why the ELT has no followership and why any competent leaders that do end up at Cisco always find the exit doors.

How long was the hiring pause supposed to be? How long has it actually been?

The pause is over from the top. However, the BUs now have to see if they can keep the reqs open. And most of them are still trying to figure how to work with the new FY22 OPEX constraints they are now being given. So, it’s not corporate holding things up, they pushed that responsibility down the stack.

Managers and Directors are put in an almost impossible position. Many teams are understaffed, when people leave you either have to downgrade the req or go at least 6 months before you can backfill and the compensation does not match market prices for >G10.

How long was the hiring pause supposed to be? How long has it actually been? How overwhelmed will the recruiters be when reqs are reopened? Due to market rate issues mentioned above how many reqs will be filled by internal people thus extending the cycle of understaffed teams? Is anyone focusing on that? Your manager might be trying to, but there is no one listening that can make a difference.

So the people than can get things done get overworked, people in useless roles (many in CX) spend maybe 32 hours per week re-arranging the deck chairs on the titanic talking to customer about things that customers don't care about, but MM thinks is the most important thing in the word.

The quality of our products are suffering greatly.

Sales teams lucky enough to sell anything beyond standard route/switch leave a mess for CX to try and implement and appease the customer (see quality).

So, what can Managers and Director do about this? Nothing. Most VP's are completely disconnected from the Customer. They don't want to make waves with their new bosses and push paper.

The entire CX organization is measured on a dashboard of metrics and, while that may sound like a great idea, they are BS metrics. So the way that VP's and up get measured is by metrics that in many cases are irrelevant to the actual customer experience and in no way related to what the workforce is doing or the pressure they are operating under.

Rewards? Your VP couldn't pick you out in a police line up. You think you are going to get rewarded for your true contributions?

Cutting 1/3 of TAC - how's that working out for everyone? How are the remaining staff doing in that world?

My advice is don't take anything at Cisco personally. You are only a number these days. Going far above and beyond may get you slightly more rewards, but not much.

Almost none left in Collab. Every one is overworked, underpaid, teams are understaffed. High attrition. Several good ones left for our competition or headhunted off linkedin.

I get the feeling a lot of people, especially managers, stay for RSUs and whatever else the compensation package includes. Otherwise most would leave. What does that say about the culture? I don't know. I suppose it's the same everywhere.

I worked for some great managers at Cisco. Seriously. Out of that list of five since 2001, only one is left. Started with the VP, then Director, being riffed. One still there; he is a great person.
