I've been here for long enough to remember the time when most of the people who worked here were satisfied with their jobs and with good reason. Decent pay, decent benefits, reasonable job security, good company culture... I'm not sure any of those things are still true. I'm at the point where I'm looking for a way out, and once I was certain I'd retire from here.

If you're talking about a particular tester and not testers in general then I agree with your point. Sabre has (or at least had) some excellent testers that were invaluable on some of the projects that I had been on. Sadly though, there were people like your tester that were unbelievably useless yet they seemed to be untouchable during layoffs.

you've got to be kidding. The entire QA orgs have been completely wiped in tge last two years.
Yes, I remember being asked to help a tester write project code. The tester did not what he was doing. I have moved on but I witnessed many good and quite skilled software engineers being layed off but the tester was never affected. Ironically, the most valuable resource to Sabre was the one who had hardly any real skills.
I agree with this post wholeheartedly. I used to think that I will retire at Sabre. But now, I worry everyday if I will be next in line to be retrenched. I have to accept new projects outside my job scope just to make sure that I please my managers. Its not like I am free and doing nothing. Been working till past midnight almost daily. Now i am seriously considering leaving this job that I once loved.
