So many people here are stressing and worrying like they're sure they are set to lose their job even if they haven't been PIPed or have not heard anything about layoffs. That is no way to live. If you have not been PIPed, you're lucky. Act like it. I'm not saying not to worry, I'm worried as well. But stressing over it nonstop when you have no idea if it's going to happen is doing you no favors.

Hate to tell the poster that said they got the PIP at 55, if you are white male, take the PIL and bail now. Don’t go through the humiliation of trying to fulfill the PIP, your fate is decided by your age. I was told in every biweekly meeting by the lying windbag that I worked for that I’d pass the PIP, right up until he told me I didn’t. I’m quite certain he took a perverse pleasure jerking me around for 3 more months.
Most of the middle managers and up in this company sold their soul a long time ago to advance, and ethics and morals are not in their dictionary.
I am in agreement with you. Worrying is not going to help. You should prepare. Get your finances in order, do your best to learn new skills, network with people outside the company, and see if there are better jobs out there. You don’t have to leave but at least you will know.
Have a plan B.
This is your life. Enjoy it.
With the delta variant, now gamma variant, people not wanting to work, goberment paying people to stay home, no one needs gasoline, with no one traveling, no need for jet fuel either. There will be another layoff this year like last year. If you weren’t PIP’d this year, you are on the list for layoff, ask those last year who thought they were safe. The ones who are left will have 4x the work as before, so the ones who will be laid off are the lucky ones. You don’t have to make a decision to leave Exxon, it has been made for you.
My main concern going forward is whether I can trust senior management to do the right thing. Based on recent experience, that answer is no. I can’t change that.
I’m assuming that any future financial upside will not be coming from the company. I’m not expecting any raises anytime soon if ever.
For reference: I’m 55 (got PIP’d for the first time this year) - just trying to make it to 60 if possible but it may not be.
@OP+1cs4gziA You sound like those recently posting on LI shouting how great it is to work of XOM and how XOM is hiring and all the great opportunities to work for the company. Do you really not know about all the work that is being sourced out to MSPs and it will continue to be.
Look at titles of the XOM id--ts posting on LI, a lot of the have outsourcing or MSP vendor mgmt in their titles. Are you also not seeing posts of people resigning stating that they are resigning because their jobs got outsourced.
I don’t think people are stressing over the possibility to loose their jobs but rather over the fact the company has been unclear and unethical on how it deals with their workforce. Methinks.
