Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Lowes and PTSD

I have metal issues possibly PTSD as well as other physical issues from working at Lowes for so many years. The erratic sleep schedule, the constant bullying from ASMs and SMs, the chemical exposure (pesticide and lumber chemicals), the hard labor (lifting without assistance, enforced stocking/downstocking, impossible long term physical expectations), lack of breaks because sheer volume of the store would not allow, the metal overload of handling 200-300 customers a shift while management hid in their offices just to name a few items on the list. The promises from corporate did not help either. This promise that genesis would be replaced with Sterling in the next few months. This went on for years. Probably still is. Dunno. That kind of thing takes a toll. You lose confidence in the brand of the company. I knew employees that went home and died after their shift literally. I saw employees get cancer and other chronic diseases even rare bird po-p infections from the unsanitary and toxic load of the store. I saw HR team up with the SM to get rid of employees who spoke out against injustices or called out management on their lack of ethics. Open door only existed if you wanted to be fired. I only stayed because I needed to feed my family and keep my health insurance. I've been out of there for almost a decade and I can tell you it took years to fix my sleep schedule. People don't understand the toll of working at Lowes takes on your body and mind. My body is wrecked and I have a disability all from working a job that started out as a good thing. It was a slow and slippery slope from there. If corporate only knew half of what I have seen, I think they would rethink their position and attitude. But then again, they might be all sociopaths and sadists. And this could all be due to a trickle down effect. I don't know. I would like to think there are some good people at corporate reading this forum with an open mind who would like to see Lowes return to being a good place to work. Perhaps it is again. I can no longer go in there. Too many bad memories. Still processing the trauma. I can't imagine what its like working during this pandemic.

To the OP, how many people died after their shifts???? Was it sheer exhaustion, dehydration, what?

Yes I worked there for a total of 10 years on and off. I loved helping customers but the drama was unreal. The previous comments are all correct. There was a click in my store and certain people that were in it got away with breaking all kinds of rules. For example, being tardy or missed days. The ones in the click got away with it but when others did the same they got fired. Also, since Marvin got in there he got the managers to start getting rid of all the people that had been there a while and had knowledge and replaced them with cheaper labor so the store could save money. Lots of good knowledgeable people got let go. The only ones still there are the rats. But there day will come! It was funny cause my manager used a ASM to act like she was friends with you just to find out people's business, then if they didn't like you, you would get fired. They got close to you to find out how to play you or get rid of you. But then the ASM got played by the store manager and she left. I thought that was funny! So don't do dirty work and think your special to theses managers.

I left after 10 years. This current leadership has brought some good and some very bad changes. I am all for efficiency and numbers - I love reports. However, that place is just reporting to report. The region I worked in is a total mess - high level managers blatantly saying racist or sexist comments, HRBP's that do not care and not at all helpful. No one is addressing the root cause of the turnover, not one manager at a high level! It is sad as I loved worked there for so long. I left after I tried to uncover some very very bad issues and had it all documented, including witnesses. It was barely addressed.....nothing left to do but go. I tried to right a very big wrong.

I can report that there is life outside of working for Lowe's and it is much, much better. Lowe's issues are triggered from top down behavior - other companies do not act in this manner. Be brave and get the heck out of there - get your sanity and life back!

I’m so glad I’m out of Lowe’s after nine years. With Marvin in charge the only thing that matters is making the rich richer.
