It’s all about $$$. If you are making too much and they can find someone with lower salary you will be next.

Old. Most newer hires are contractors paid by a third party so when X tries to reduce head count, getting rid of contract workers doesn't help.

Both since they have to show they are not targeting one particular group (older employees come to mind) Usually a younger employee is sacrificed for several older employees. WARN filings prove it all!!
