Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

There really is a better world out there

After 21 years, I was worried about moving on. Cisco is like a bad marriage where you are afraid to leave because you think the outside world is worse. You have to try so that you can get your self confidence back. At my new job, I feel respected and no longer worry about the annual layoffs. There really is a better world out there. Just do it. Of course, it’s better to interview while you still have a job so that you don’t feel pressured to take the first opportunity.

I like your example of bad marriage. So true, i was happy when i joined Cisco then saw many redundancies and layoffs and thought if i keep on achieving more than expected i will get to keep this job and get increments and bonus shares.

I was so wrong. Achieve more than anyone else in my team looked around in other teams and they were just focussed on one or two things whereas i produced 4-5 things in one go. Saved an extra employee. Instead of rewarding all the years work i got sacked in the worst possible way.

As soon as i left Cisco, i saw so many large companies interested in giving me a job and a better career than Cisco. Got a job within a week or two. Don't be afraid be happy that you're set free.

I was actually just a peon, not a manager. The last five yo six years at Cisco was he-l. I saw many of my friends and coworkers get the axe every single year. It was so depressing and the environment was so toxic. My manager kept telling me to be appreciative that I still had a job. I kept waiting for the LR package too but it never happened. It’s a terrible state to be in when you are caught between waiting for the package and afraid to go out and interview. Finally in 2018, I decided that I had enough and left for another job.

I was at Cisco for 21 years before I took the last ER. Some of us just worked and didn't worry about layoffs. Helps to align with profitable BU and product. It payed off being able to leave with the ER cash.

Pretty easy to keep your job at Cisco. Over achieve expectations.

You stayed for 21 yrs at Cisco? You must be one of those politicians with a brown nose that everyone on here keeps talking about. Please share the blueprint on how you managed to dodge the LR train for 21 yrs.
