Talent Review Sessions

Heard that there will be something called talent review sessions coming up this week for 24 and above. Gimme a break. More like a popularity review since people at those levels are lacking in what anyone would call talent.

If you think the leadership intends to recognize good work and technical skill just look at the PMO for this dubious New Energies BU. Same old crowd and for HR, big surprise: another HRDP. Nice enough guy but what has he even done other than get promoted every couple of years?

It’s not a “genuine” MIT grad. It’s the “hipots” chevron sent to MIT.

To be honest, any MIT grad is going to be a lot smarter than me so it's only fair they get my job. I wouldn't take offense from it, but I doubt any MIT grad is going to waste their time on my stup[id job.

The purpose of these "talent review sessions" was telegraphed a couple of years ago, at least for petrotechs. It was obvious then (and steered many Boomers into retirement last year) that unless you completely embrace the transition to AI and ML (that is, learn to use the buzzwords, forget about your technical training and experience), your career is going to dead-end while some young whipper-snapper who went to MIT advances. Guaranteed there will be all sorts of spreadsheets and heat maps, with the purpose of identifying who will be favored and who won't in the future.

So glad I don't work there anymore. Sounds like they are scoping people out for another round of cuts.

You need to thank Oracle Taleo for the great HR debacle. Having Agile, at your finger tips AI metrics to determine who can do what, who has learned what, and how much is it worth. This data helps create the excel spreadsheet HR uses to generate power point meeting slides so upper management can cut at will. You are just a number. An organo-sever protein required to provide the machine input. You will bow down to the machine and over time you too will be redundant.

Come on, man!

Talent is in the backseat when compared to who you are, who you know, what other diversity and inclusion metrics one may fit. We all have seen how the company views and states professional experience and reputable degree programs matter...and then run in a manner that "career development" for someone in another functional area transfer(s) into the functional.

I am so glad I took the EOI and got out of this nut house. From the change to the procurement system to dumping Chip Dip for Agile to changing HR to workday, the entire process had become a big mess. Work was done as a secondary task.

If you have ever worked for the company, you’d know what TPS is. Go fish for information elsewhere.

What is TPS?

Re-mapping what talent lies where vs where it is needed. Prepare for some shifting about and potentially big shifts of people out of TPS to BUs.

Just another activity to keep HR and the esteemed Sponsor Group busy and relevant (well not so esteemed sponsor group now that they report to HR!)

There hasn't been a US-based new boy band in a while.
This might be the opportunity.

Waste of complete time….the whole lot of it. Chevron continues to focus on the things that don’t matter. We are constantly distracted from actually doing our jobs and being productive. The process has us thinking or worrying about the next role so we never focus on the job at hand. Extremely counter productive and morale ki---r.
