Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

$1..$2... Sounds like desperation time.

No, thank you! You can keep your $1extra per hour on Friday's and Sunday's and your $2 per hour on Saturday's. We are ok with working our scheduled shifts. If you're so desperate to get employees to work Friday's, Saturday's and Sunday's, why not schedule them for full shifts instead of 6 hours, 4 hours and some even 3 hours. Whoever the pencil pusher is that came up with this GENIUS idea, need to take a step back ask, why do we schedule fulltime employees 4 days a week, working 28 to 32 hours and 5 days a week working 32 to 35 hours. And part timers 12 hours some lucky ones get 16 hours. Macy's, it's called "cutting your nose to spite your face". You save on health insurance and in the end begging employees to work by offering incentives. You can take your incentives and shove it up you know where. Some of us have a life outside of Macy's.

You hit the nail on the head! Exactly right when you said " Macy's paid off debt early but can't afford to pay the employees a living wage."

Yeah, here in Sacramento the manager and team made a big deal out of this, we have so many open shifts and jobs since we pay so much less than any other employer in the area. Why is the company only offering this extra pay on the weekends and through the holiday, what are we supposed to do after that? Why not just increase pay for employees like every other retailer and fast food place in the market? Do they think we can't see what's happening here? Sure a few extra bucks on weekends is nice, but still have to work two jobs to support yourself and good luck if you have a family. Macy's paid off debt early but can't afford to pay the employees a living wage.

I just heard about this last night. I don’t call out much -hardly ever. But my shifts are usually 3 -6 hrs. An extra $6 to $12 is not going to make a huge difference after taxes! Those who call out will still call out. They should never have laid off so many last year. So many good people just tossed away. Now Macy’s pays the price.

Macy’s is done. They should just sell out to Amazon while there’s still time. All of you who still work there - leave while the job market is still good.
