Thread regarding Nordstrom layoffs

Always prepared

What does it mean to you to always be prepared for layoffs? People usually advise that everyone should be prepared. How do you prepare? Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of savings and I don't consider looking for another job any preparation because I always look at what's on offer at the job market. As soon as I find a new better job for myself, I will certainly not be here anymore.

If you can save, do it. This company is struggling. Their initiatives have failed spectacularly the last few years. The covid shutdown almost made the company bankrupt. They were bleeding money more than other retailers. If being shutdown for two months is all it takes, than do not expect job security going forward. If we have another recession or worse, depression, the company may not survive. Sure, having racks be mini warehouses (with fulfillment) helped in the short term, but when Amazon can offer better deals, and faster shipping, this will not last long.
