Thread regarding Nordstrom layoffs

Will there be severances?

My mom works at Nordstrom and she's been there for more than 15 years. She now spends all her days stressing over closings and layoffs. I keep telling her that she should be getting a severance as a full-timer with so many years there, but she claims that severances are not guaranteed? Is this true?

Nordstrom's is a joke I'm so glad I left the company best decision I made in my life. only thing I miss is some of my coworkers. They will lay you of in a second some of the management is rude as ever and half of them are racist. I worked Lp for them for 5 years and it was so funny when the hoodlums came in and got in the managements face. Oh I'm sorry I thought you where big and bad oh now you see you cant talk to anyone any kind of way oh your scared they are waiting for you out side maybe you should watch your mouth. And the theft is absurd like literally people will steal over $20,000 worth of merch in a day and come back the next day do it again and then return everything back on to a gift card do a split tender and then return everything to their personal bank accounts lol

Security ambassadors being let go get 300 dollars if they work their remaining shifts until august 22nd. Not really a severance but a way for the company to say - yea we are letting you go be we still need you.

We all were just let go in housekeeping. Last day Aug22.
If we stay, and not miss a shift in this two week time frame... We get 400 dollars... Less taxes.
Yes, the first rounders got severance...
As for all of us... No soup for you!

As a department manager, I got a week of pay, per year. This was during the round of 16 store closures.

Severance is totally at the option of the employer unless you have a written contract that says you get one. There is no law that forces an employer to pay a severance.

Last time there were layoffs in June 2020 they gave the employees severance pay.
