Thread regarding Baker Hughes layoffs

Is that really so?

A colleague is convinced that he would be better off at BH if he did not have a degree.
So I wonder what you think, are non-degree people really doing better here than the ones with the degree?

Your degree is pooh if your university didn't have a football team.
And if you obtained a secondary degree from that same non-football team having school, then you are pooh pooh.

college is a whole lot more than passing classes.

community college doesn't count, should have joined national guard at that point.

Online degrees aren’t degrees. Those are internet feel better about yourself certificates. It’s playing arcade games and turning in tickets for a prize. The casino is for big boys and girls.

I had an employee say if all He needed was to go to college and make good enough grades to get into a BHGE leadership program, he could have done that and done a terrible job just like the rest of us program dummies.

Fact is he only went to college long enough to see one football game. I think he got his online associates in 6 years.
Good riddance he’s gone.

Education isn’t a factor.
Weak leadership will still take your ideas and hand them over to the most incompetent muddaf_ctore they can find. And tell you, handing over your ideas is the path to the top.
No thank you.

The basics of understanding behavior cannot be learned through experience. Humanities can only be taught through college and is the most under utilized and down played curriculum. BH is a prime example of this. The whole company is ran by engineers who have zero social and behavioral experience which makes for poor communication and leadership seams to be absent.
Understanding the levels of communication are far from the reach of this company.
A no degree vs a degree makes no difference in this situation .

Degrees will get you into more doors and there’s no question about that. Having one is better than not having one.

The ones crying about the degrees ones ruining the company fail to admit that it isn’t the fact that they have a degree, it’s the fact that they are lousy leaders. You have lousy non-degrees types that ruin it for the rest.

Let’s not forget that there are many people with technical degrees with street smarts and experience that compensate for not having a conventional college degree.

I do agree some have college degrees and just don’t have the snap or spark to get work done right.

It simply boils down to the individual, their drive, and confidence (and luck).

Well Bucky, if you are a "she" there is a higher probability that degrees won't matter. Don't forget that the memo from the top a few years ago about the statrd goal to increase females in management.

Soooo......degree or not, sounds like you (and others) are going to get the "short end of the stick."

“…are non-degree people really doing better here than the ones with the degree?”

If you don’t have a college degree, your life and your career will go nowhere. Nobody will consider you for management, and many well-paid jobs require specific degrees and post-graduate qualifications (no shortcuts, no exceptions).

Most of the people without degrees who are complaining are just bitter because they’re making a lot less money and are stuck doing physical work.

I work in the Jacksonville, Fl facility with a lot of mo--ns with degrees. 2021. Doesn’t really mean much having a degree. It only means that you were willing to pay money to get it.
Pay is decent for hourly overall that don’t have degrees. Unfortunately the company, like most still have boners for people with degrees. They assume that they are intelligent and are capable of doing the job. Skilled , non degree people get left out of possible opportunities. Essentially discrimination if you really think about it.
My facility is a train wreck run by people with degrees.
