Thread regarding Belk layoffs

Invisible at Belk

No matter how much work I do, no matter how well I do that job, I am invisible at Belk because I am not one of the favorites of my store manager.. Is everything really becoming reduced to a private relationship with your store manager here, or is there still a little professionalism left?

One of the most egregious practices by management (regional and division) was their placing personality above performance. Cult of personality.

While your performance mattered some, particularly if it was substandard, it mattered less than how you we're perceived and "liked" by those above you. You could score high on any and all metrics but if someone didn't "like" you, felt you were not in the company mold, you would never rate to the level your performance merited.

We were actually told this. It is "important to be liked by senior management". Didn't matter if your associates, co-workers or customers liked and respected you. Rather it was all about the dog and pony shows and how they felt about you and if you were a perky little cheerleader for their egos.

Now it was also disgusting to see and watch some females cozying up to, rubbing more than shoulders with, flirting and more with visitors. Why? These ladies knew that it was for sure not what you did but how others felt about you, even as they did indeed feel you!

So that is why, no matter who or for whom you work, just do your best and forget the rest. Take your pay and self satisfaction home with you as your reward for your work.
Hopefully some day you will meet and work for those who truly understand what it means not to be your boss but to be your coach, co-worker, trainer, motivator, therapist LOL and more.

Yes, I'm sorry you are invisible to that store manager, it's not you, it's them. You wouldn't want to be a favorite of someone who treats associates in that manner anyway.
I noticed this mismanagement years ago,
I just do my hours and go home.
We recently got a new HR manager, but none of us can put our trust in her either, because of how the store manager operates.
They also have their favorite managers, there's one that is a tyrant, degrades, ridicules associates, in person and in front of customers. She is never disciplined or wrote up, if there are written complaints about her, it magically disappears.
Another useless thing they do, is make bulletin boards, depicting associates as losers, (due to their low emails) also there's a good, bad, and ugly bulletin board, of customer reviews. Yes this happens at Snellville Belk too.
