Why so many false promises?

Being lied to on everything from career development, promotion, to having a support staff.

Exactly. I'm so glad someone mentioned this. I too feel more than cheated. My mistake, I was naive. If I could turn back time, I would've never applied for a job here. Perhaps XOM shouldn't be making false promises.

Actions speak louder than words. If you are hipo you will know it because you will be getting regular raises and promotions.

They need motivated people to climb the ranks, so they dangle the “executive potential” carrot in front of way more people than there are actual jobs at those levels. I heard a large percentage (double digits) of EMIT in the US has some form of “high potential” with the actual number of CL30+ jobs being more like 0.2%
