Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Another slap in the face from WFM

News breaks today that as an effort to "recognize our incredible work" WFM team members will receive additional one-time bonus of $2 to $3 per hour worked between 10/4/21 and 1/2/22.

Hate to break it to you, but this is not a gift. This is a payoff in hopes people stop jumping ship before the holiday.

If the company cared about its workers, it would be a wage increase, period. This is only to ensure that the company isn't sc--w ed for the holiday season. It has nothing to do with a thank you or appreciation for the worker.

Not to mention, if they issue it as a lump sum at the end of the year, what is it taxed at?

This is even scummier than the double time increase.

Try again, WFM.

I don't know about other regions but the MA is losing STL and ASTL. Despite what posters claim here the pay isn't enough for the job demands. There are 3 STL out on sabbatical and multiple others on leave or taking long vacations. Rumor has it a few more will be leaving before the holidays. I love working 60+ hours a week plus on call 24/7 and having TL make as much or more than me.

They can layoff my tl. The only good thing hes at is sitting in his glutes all day. And his weight gain is the proof of it.

This is typical. We’re going to continue to bust our b-ms throughout what is going to be a very rough holiday season. We’re already SO understaffed in our store, team members are already SO burned out, customers are rude and obnoxious, Covid is back in our store amongst team members. Ahhhhh! Now to hear that we won’t even get this “extra pay” until the end of January?!?
My real concern though is what positions will be cut next at the store level. I have this nagging feeling it’s coming…but only after we get the company through the end of the year.
Happy Holidays, fellow WFM team members.🤪

I had a conversation with my stl and why they are leaving and he recommended leaving and building a career somewhere else this place would not acknowledge all the time and work put in or what you have done for the company. He let know that it was the teams innovating making new programs that worked and the regional people got all the credit for pushing it to the region and the creators of the programs got nothing and the coordinators got recognition .No one wants to volunteer for new stores since the original crews never last a year and the stl’s failing there will be moved before the ship sinks to help save the stl . I took that advice from my stl and decided to leave when he goes we had a good one worth his weight in gold we got another stl know I put in my 2 weeks and I was offered a 10% raise to stay longer but I turned it down this company is toxic and ran by talentless leadership in regional and global but they keep getting promoted since they have the attitude that demands more of team members with no reality concept of what is happening at store levels .the new “ field associates “ are the same people who leech off the company remember when we reported weights and measure problems with pricing but regional tuned a blind eye yeah we are headed there again and our executive leadership will make a new video apologizing about it . When you hit rock bottom all you have left to do is keep digging.Feel relieved to be leaving and sad to leave the awesome team members I had the privilege to work with I will miss not seeing every day but it’s my time to leave the company for my own sake .

Crack the system what the he-l are you talking about? The system is broken and thats why people are annoyed. Not everyone is high functioning human being and they won't advance but they are still necessary for operations.

In the first quarter of 2022 more consolidations are happening .
You a get a slight bump they let go . Double time and temp pay increase doesn’t really translate to all that you will get taxed at a pretty high rate and amazon writes it off as a loss. The astl’s and stl’s are quitting even the most experienced ones newly promoted astl’s are under paid only 10% increase when program is completed no matter where you stand on previous pay.Store leadership became overpaid floaters and they had atl’s and tl’s to do their financial acumen on cornerstone since they kept failing over and over. Holidays will be mu---r.

Somebody said it should be paid out week to week like hazard pay…wha?…lol the whole point is to get folks to stay through the holiday…you guys are going to be shocked when u work for other companies…a lot simply just don’t do things like this…u will always run around “nobody cares about me nobody cares”…stop worrying about people caring about you and smash through the system…the system is designed to use you until you crack the system…do not become an American workforce weakling…beat everyone or fall trying …I sp-t on your feebleness

Dear Ex Taco Bell Employee,

I would just like to say that you are the bread and butter of what an increasingly toxic company looks for in a team member. So, congrats on bending over, I guess.

You call people who criticize the actions of a tone-deaf and selfishly clueless employer as "non deserving" or "entitled", but keep this in mind. Team members are beginning to realize what they are really worth, not only in this current climate, but also in general. This is possibly the time that we finally discover that we have a voice and the ability to fight for what we deserve.

You say 'one thing I won't be is broke'. That may be true. Just keep in mind that you are blindly dedicated to a company that would no sooner give you this "bonus" that you should feel grateful for, as they would fire you for missing Amazon shopping metrics.

They can afford to pay everyone more its a conscious effort to not do so. Why should you feel any obligation to work hard for a company that blatantly doesn't care about you? They do not have your best interest in mind so why make things any easier for them? Make them work harder for the ridiculous pay they receive at the global office.

Dear, Ingrates

I would just like to say that I am grateful for all the Incentives We have been provided with given that I would be showing up to work anyways nothing wrong With earning my pay call me old-fashioned, lifer, old, Ignorant... But the one thing you won't be able to call me is broke. Happy holidays!!

Ps if anyone should be upset it should be the ones going in busting their behind while you entitled nondeserving still reap the benefit of a $2 increase and show up doing the bare minimum.

This will not help at all. So many people are not going to stick around Oct to Jan just to get this bonus. It should be paid out per check like they did with covid hazard pay. A full time TM working the min of 36 hours a week would get a little over $900 dollars before it's taxed. Lucky to get $500. I imagine there are many tms who will work their tails off until they stress quit and see nothing.

From Innerview: The bonus will be based on a Team Member’s hours worked and continued employment throughout the period between Oct. 4, 2021, to Jan. 2, 2022. It will be paid out to all eligible Team Members on Jan. 28, 2022, or in accordance with applicable law to the extent that it requires something different. For Team Members to earn this bonus, they must be employed on or after Oct. 4, 2021, and actively employed on Jan. 2, 2022. The bonus will be calculated in January 2022 based on the following:

All hourly Team Members (Levels 1, 2, and 3) will receive $2 / £2 in bonus pay for each hour worked during this time.

All hourly Team Leaders (Level 4) will receive $3 / £3 in bonus pay for each hour worked during this time.

As a salaried TM I’d like to say F U. On call 24hrs 7 days a week working 60hrs a week. He-l of an incentive for A/STL’s to head on out. Good luck trying to retain us.

LOL you have to give it to Amazon , they are clever. People with a brain will see this as a BS ploy but thats not who amazon wants to work for them anyway. The people that are excited about this are in for a ruuuuude awakening if this is a ONE LUMP SUM payment that they can only get if they grind through the holidays.... absolutely perfect play by amazon. it might help keep them afloat for the rest of the year before the big changes come down after January.

You S-B I was just about to post about this being a slap in the face you stole my thunder. I'm happy to finally see some activity on this site once again spread the word do as little as possible and no overtime make the holidays as bad as they need to be. Once the holidays are over they will probably drop the rate increases or cut everyone's hours.

For a full time team member, this abounts to very little after taxes.

I'd rather have a job that's not toxic than a few hundred dollars.

It addresses none of the issues that have contributed to the mass exodus. That's pretty typical of this blind, arrogant company.

All it says is that we're valuable only when the company is falling apart.
