Thread regarding Pembina Pipeline Corp layoffs

Restructuring Posts

Why are people shocked they were laid off after Mick/Pembina pocketed 350 million from the failed/lowball IPL transaction? Pembina doesn't give a f*** about you.

Last spring Mick pocketed millions in unnecessary covid aid from the UCP only to turn around and lay off 400 of our people and then brag about it. Classy little man.

Outside of hosting catered parties with lots of booze, Pembina has never given a s*** about any of us. Sorry that any of you think otherwise.

So, stuart. He is the only fossil still at Mick's table. JS at least seems like he has a conscience. btw, if you are referring to Paul as "hard working" that is amusing. He was part of the cultural rot and should have been dismissed years ago.

The one who manipulated and schemed to get the other hardworking VPs and Senior VPs to "retire"

Just an FYI, the person behind all the layoffs is the COO

Looks like certain lifestyle choices have caught up with someone. Want to bet he 'retires' in a couple of years due to health issues.

Interpipe poison pill money, government covid aid, bloated pembina executive compensation, layoffs. It's like a bat signal to micks cheerleaders and those who worship corporations. Where are they here to remind us how wonderful corporations and their executives are?

Photo of mick below for reference. Not stress related (or other reasons) i'm sure... yikes

Thanks for confirming we received government assistance. I assumed Pembina did have their greasy hands out asking for free money, and when they got that cheque, the company certainly used the pandemic as an excuse to execute on layoffs last year for the quick savings win (and perhaps again now with things potentially shutting down!) With everyone working from home last year, there was a reduced chance of any in-person conflict or additional costs to the company, so Pembina took the easy way out. In my opinion, I would not be surprised they knew with everything shut down, it was an opportune time and did a happy dance to not have to pay for additional benefit coverage for these people, and they could further grind them over (find the severance package post here. This place is tacky and CHEAP.) I know people who were let go, and it was obviously unrelated to their job performance or contributions, but instead dismissed for reasons that were appeared downright unethical. The reasons we heard from management about their dismissals were dubious. Not saying anything further as I don't want to be doxxed as I am a current Pembina employee and enjoy the pay while interviewing for other jobs on company time.

Re: covid aid - Pembina took the federal Covid wage subsidy (the list of employers who did is publicly available), while at the same time not cutting executive pay or allowing voluntary layoffs. It would be one thing to take the subsidy, I think, but the galling part is that all of the reporting in quarterly updates said that the company was in great financial shape. Last spring’s layoffs were not due to covid or finances (most of the company’s revenue is from long term take-or-pay contracts, they would have maintained strong cash flow), it was completely opportunistic and they took advantage of the crisis. to lay people off at the height of a global pandemic. So yes, Pembina took a government bailout it didn’t need while continuing to reward its executive team with bloated pay.

Dont@Me: What are you ranting about? The original poster essentially said the exact same thing as you did but in a more concise manner. You seem to have some sort of axe to grind and there is no need to rush to the aid of "Uncle Mick" or get easily triggered by online posts critical of our company or CEO. Go run up to his office and let him know that you are defending him against anonymous online posts. Many of us who still work for the company started in the patch while you were likely running around in a soggy diaper. By the way, word is that severance packages provided this round were anything but "generous" and were incredibly insulting. Defend that kid.

To the OP: I don't believe the company pocketed any Covid aid (correct me if I wrong). Corps did receive tax breaks from the UCP and two months later Pembina did execute their layoffs.

Sounds like someone was let go. First time? Well at least you were given a generous severence, access to mental health resources, proffesional help updating your resume and applying for positions. Alot of the people that were let go were basically given early retirement anyways, and knew this was coming for the last 2 years or so.

Every other place I've gone through this you show up just to be given your papers with a handshake and you're on your own. It's the nature of the patch. Uncle Mick held on as long as he could, though I don't blame anyone for being sour about it but open your eyes. It's always the guy with no skills that blames the boss for their problems.

Welcome to the industry kid. Nobody that wears a suit to work gives a sh-t about you, that should have been explained your first day in this industry. We are here to make money, plain and simple. I'm sure you were here because you loved it though right?

It's not about working hard and getting rewarded, and it hasn't been about that for a long time at any major O&G company. When it comes down to it, it's a business and a company. It will always value share price and EBITDA before your personal feelings. Employees will always be the biggest liability to any corporation.

Catered meetings were always a bit much but the Golf Trips were available to all employees as well as a lot of free perks for field and office staff that were definitely taken advantage of. But griping about the company man not giving a sh-t about you because he made the company he works for more money? please..

This world isn't getting any easier, so you're going to need to get tougher.
