When managers decide who to promote to supervisors, do they just take the d-mbest people in the store or people who couldn't sell a cup of water to a thirsty person?

Depends on the store I guess, we have 2 DS’s that where former service managers and they do more running around than the ASMs. We have a new ASM who treats the one like his personal slave, he even makes him go get his lunch under the threat of firing him and this guy does it. We also have 4 other DS’s that together couldn’t figure out how a hammer works they are that d-mb.
LOL, I got you beat. My last DS was a total loser and was the definition of a proverbial empty seat whenever he was on the clock. Contributed next to nothing in the way of assistance and spent most of his shifts sitting in either the break room or manager's office. Eventually he was dismissed when Lowe's had him ARRESTED for stealing out of the till. Nice to know that Lowe's took their time to build a strong case against him but they also allowed the departments he was over to twist in the wind while doing so.
Those who are to be promoted are already screened and chosen. One in my store was an appliance Specialist who knew he was going to take a pay cut if he went to Department Supervisor...but heard that if he wanted to move up in the future, he needed to apply NOW. Of course he got it. Of course he took a big pay cut. Of course he is asking to go back. Of course they are telling him, "NO."
Sounds like jealousy to me just saying
And the laziest ones, I have seen it first hand.
