Feeling demotivated to chase raises, in a 50%+ marginal tax bracket... Government will take half anyways. Effort reward has dissapeared...

I hear Exxon is evaluating moving into the horse dewormer opportunity space...
Oh shut up and go take some horse dewormer
I really think you need a new accountant.
That alimony is NOT the government, OP.
OMG 90% would love to feed a family the kind of dinners a 50% tax bracket income could afford! They could take nice vacations, drive only leased cars, upgrade the old lady’s ring. Put the kids in private school, maybe get a nanny and not have to stagger work shifts. Like seriously wtf more of more is more. If it ain’t enough move over! That income is a dream for a lot of people
“I would rather make 50% of 100,000 then put in effort and make 50% of 200,000”
Ummmm … the former is LESS. Regardless of what your tax rate is, the goal is to bring home as much take-home as you can. If you have to work in a country with a high tax rate, and you’re working for a given company, wouldn’t you want to maximize your take-home instead of being as sour pu-s that says “I can’t possibly, I give up 🥴”?
People who complain about tax rates are shockingly bad at math. You never take home less with your next dollar made … you just get taxed higher on that next dollar.
Responses here unfortunately typical, those on US payroll don't realise how cloistered they are versus those in other parts of the world.
Similar position in UK for late career employees.
Sounds like you are in Europe :) If you are single, not married and without kids, the government really take a lot out of your paycheck :)

It's not going to take an accountant to state that your effective tax rate is well below 50%
