Thought it might be nice to hear (anonymously of course) on how we have been doing since 9/15/20 when 550 of us were thrown out with the dishwater.
For myself after working for RJ for well over 10 years I had the humbling layoff/firing. Loyalty meant nothing, weekend work meant nothing, disaster tests meant nothing. I was lucking due to preparing for my eventual retirement (was just turning 60) so I was maximizing everything I could such as retirement, HSA and savings. I also over time had increased my vacation hours to the max allowed for me and used sick/pto hours for occasional days off since I knew those hours would be lost. Then the day came. I did get a significant amount of money from RJ in addition to vacation payout and a year of Cobra. Finally I was able to get unemployment for 8 months. I have now signed up for Social Security (had to take at 62) and am fully retired. I did try for 2 different RJ jobs but nothing happened. I am happy with my wife, health and grand children. I feel bad for those still at RJ. I've stayed in contact with a few and moral has never been worse.
