Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Once people find another opportunity they all leave

Are most people here just because they don't have any other employment choices? I got the impression that in fact no one comes here with the intention of staying long, but only until he or she manages to find another job.
It’s sad when a company is the place for those who leave as soon as they get a new opportunity.

Was this a closely guarded secret, or did you just now figure that one out yourself?

Approx. 50% of the associates are part time. They aren't there for a career

As the previous poster mentioned, it wasn't always that way. There was a time where you could actually have a decent, long term career at Walmart and I'm not just talking about a job at the Home Office.

Ultimately, WM created the current toxic work environment themselves. Instead of focusing on the associate who in turn would take care of the customer, WM focused on the (major) shareholders. They put profits over people and the associates became third class citizens. WM started cutting headcount and the associates were forced into doing the jobs of 2 or 3 people. WM restricted hours so only the rare associate could get FT status and get benefits. Instead of acknowledging that their associates have lives outside of WM and have certain availability, WM ignores this and you work what they tell you. I could go on about how WMs work environment has deteriorated. It's all about reputation.

WMs reputation is out there and it's not good. If someone is in the job market and know the above, would any respectable human being work for them? Because of all the changes made by WM, mostly detrimental to the associate, WM now attracts the bottom of the barrel and desperate people.

The answer is Yes. It wasn’t always that way, but the dumming down of our workforce and available bodies forces that situation. Those that have higher skills can obtain other job opportunities with more pay, benefits, etc. those that do not possess those skills will not.
