I was laid off from XOM at the end of April. Per severance terms, I was eligible for company subsidized COBRA for 4 months. I will be switching to spouse’s health insurance at the end of August (4 months).
Recently I have received a letter (American Rescue plan act) that waives all cobra premium payment if I did not have the choice of any other insurance. In my case, I had the option of going on to my spouse’s insurance but decided to stick with XOM insurance for 4 months.
Per the letter, do I need to pay XOM back the subsidy amount for the past 4 months?

After the company subsidized COBRA for 4 months there is an additional subsidy for Cobra which is part of the American rescue plan and that one ends Sept 30th 2021.
Oh my God no ! The Benefits Service Center is useless ! I’ve tried calling them several times - the people on the other end of the phone could hardly speak English and couldn’t answer my questions. So I’ve tried using the secure messaging service on the website. Even asking relatively simple questions (e.g. “my home page doesn’t have a link to the new lump sum interest rates - please can you tell me what they are ?”) they still don’t seem to understand and don’t answer the question.
ExxonMobil Benefits Service Center is a good resource. Found this on the web
