@1svr, A lot of people want a lot of things, higher pay, better benefits, WFH, etc. WFH is a temporary situation based on a pandemic. Why is that so hard to understand? Sounds like you need to start looking for a job with all the benefits you speak of, and not one at a major oil and gas corporation. Good luck with your plight!

Nobody ever said Chevron paid the highest. Chevron strives to pay market rate which will be about the median. Half of employers will pay more. They are easy to find. If you need more money, just tell your headhunter you want the highest paying employers.

Former Chevron petrotech here. I took the package last December. Got another job making 26% more than I was at Chevron, with half the corporate politics. Shame on me for thinking that I was paid well all those years at Chevron.

CIO posted a thing on workplace about attrition. He says it's OK because the rate in the US is the same as it's always been. Except that he forgot that we just had a lot of people EOI, not just old people going into retirement, but the young technical talent as well. If you count that into our attrition numbers, it's not as great as it seems. The people are sticking around a little longer because 1) COVID - lack of motivation to actively look for jobs / hire people by both parties, and 2) why try hard to find something else when you can sit at home, do very little, get paid good money. Once we go back to the office, expect the attrition rates to skyrocket.

I for one hope attrition gets so bad they stop doing what they are doing.

People are leaving for a reason. Wonder why? Well it’s because of the company.

Lmao there are no hobos po----g on the sidewalks in San Ramon. It’s one of the safest places to live in the US. You’re either thinking of San Francisco or just making stuff up. But agree with the rest of the comment. Chevron can suck it.

@1ebd did you know that in 2016, US emitted half the CO2 of China despite having 1/4 of the population?

Just ask yourself - were you motivated to get up and work today? I think that might answer your question.

mgmt have lost their direction in the areas of IT, permian, lng, low carbon and overly focused on dividends

IT - the failed digitization projects across the company. DELFI is a good example and the data lakes initiatives

permian - aggressively expanding permian footprint and end up we are likely going to sell at a loss for those blocks we are selling this year. don't get me started on the contamination and methane news on permian

lng - over priced project and failed CCUS

low carbon - the projects announced so far are so underwhelming compared to our competitors. carbon offsets to negate our carbon emissions. how reliable is this anyway? we are just continuing to contribute to climate change

dividends - the endless desire to increase dividends at the expense of employees

I want WFH or work anywhere. The only places chevron has are absolute dumps

Houston, Covington, midland, & cali.

Houston = swamp with ramped crime, increased property tax, crazy drivers who shoot everyone else, etc
Covington = great place but if your not from there your never accepted there
Midland = don’t get me started on this overpriced sand box 5 hr from anywhere
San Ramon = the only people who can afford to live here are the execs, not to mention you have ho-o po----g on the sidewalks and no one seams to care

I think once / if another major offers WFH or work anywhere there will be a mass exodus with the Petrotechs just like your seeing with HR and IT. The problem with pertotechs is you can’t just replace them with another person. There are years and years of company knowledge in those brains. Just remember if a petrotech wants to cost this company money just forget to remind them about that problem you see early on and allow it to happen, rig downtime at $1MM day, oh that messed up a $100MM drill well, oh that messed up a $100MM completion. OK we will try better the next time.

F -off chevron, we busted our assses and you all guaranteed security to the Petros for years ……with the exceptions of really bad sc--w ups… then you lay off 25% of them, many were damn good and your trying to turn the company into a tech play company worried about agile and woke. Worry about oil and gas id--ts, what’s the core function of this business.

@rxs

I think your right on almost all of this except for the climate change. I understand some people are concerned about climate change but why in the world would someone come to work at an oil company who was worried about climate change. I just don’t get it. And why in the world should chevron care about climate change when China pumps tons of cr-p into our air and water with no retribution. Just don’t get it. Maybe I am a boomer or what ever you kids call the old people but it just doesn’t make sense.

Spot on with all the other stuff

CTC is doomed under the 'temporary' leadership of EB. Get out while you can, on your own terms.

Lots of reasons. Take your pick:

  • Lots of jobs available out there
  • Many jobs that offer permanent wfh or work-from-anywhere, if that’s your preference
  • For those in CTC or a support function, fed up with the unworkable operating model
  • Desire to escape an industry in decline
  • Belief that the company isn’t doing enough or working fast enough to address climate change
  • Tired of the same old, same old rhetoric about how different we are now when nothing helpful has actually changed
