Nobody should be building a career in retail. How far can you get here, really? This should be a job that helps you pay the bills as you try to find something better, a meaningful job where you have a proper chance of self-betterment and career progress. If you are stuck here, then invest some time in learning new skills but don't just accept that this is as good as it gets.

Retail is a stepping stone to get experience, until you get something better, a real career. The only beneficiaries are the owners or top level management that make the rules. I did what most have done, work in retail when I was young. After college had a few more years and then left, never looked back. Got into Information Technology when it was the hot industry and made a nice career out of it. Nothing is guaranteed of course, i've seen certain people kiss so much bu-t and move up in rank that probably shouldn't of. The squeaky wheel gets the oil as they say. If you're going to bust your bu-t, make it worth your while. Not too many retail execs that actually care how hard someone works for them.
Agreed. I worked part time at macy's for over 10 years and was approached about full time and put in management roles. No way!!! I was not going to leave my full time job to go to macy's! If I did, I probably would not have any job, because they were all cut during restructuring. So, not macys is not a place to make a career. Just look at hoe much turnover there is!!
Retail was fantastic…..20,30 or 40 years ago. I had a great 40 year career….with talented, bright and ambitious people. That’s all long gone. Anyone with brains ,education , talent……does not go into retail …esp a place like Macy’s.
Retail is part time unskilled labor with open availability and no benefits. Just a way to pay the bills until you find a real job or career
Never was and never will be a career.. its a waste of your life , time and talents.. start your own biz and break your hump for that biz.. not sweat shop macys !
