Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Claims needs a union!!!

I have worked in many areas if SF and claims is by far the worst. There is no work life balance and you are only as good as your metrics. They are now forcing more over time on us and telling us it's only a short term solution.......they took on 2 million policies and did nothing to increase their claims work force. Management treats claims specialists like children micro managing thier every move and then can't understand why everyone is quiting!?!? You can't take any PTO. I know people myself included who are almost maxed out on PTO because we get denied for any time off. The Management in claims needs to be fired for thier mismanagement of the department. They have allowed it to get to a boiling point. We need a union so they can't treat us this way! I know SF and it is better than this! They sued to care about employees....not in claims. A union is the only way we can make sure none of us get treated like this anymore.

Until toxic management culture and decisions change they will work employees into the ground treating you like a commodity (not a human being). I say leave the unhealthy environment and make sure your next job is run better. There is a stark lack of humanity and any manager or line employee who shows any or asks questions is forced out. Not a healthy situation and has been bad for about 8-10 years. And, it has been really, really bad since 2015. Take care of your physical and mental health first. There is life after and outside SF. Good luck and have courage.

Unions are great if you REALLY want to experience corruption, cronyism, nepotism, and lack of care for the workers.

What you need -is to quit your complaining and your job. If it is too stressful get a job at a spa.

I started as an admin assistant in an operations center in the late 2000s. It was a fun, social job. I transferred to a different city (phx/tempe hub) for a claims associate job in 2016. I left in 2020. Definitely should’ve thrown in the towel sooner. State Farm claims is the only area I’ve worked where I felt literally like I didn’t matter to anyone. I could go into specifics but does it really matter? The only people who disagree with honest criticism on this site are either fake users or probably SF’s own online CIA. I mean all that money has to go somewhere - it definitely ain’t on employees making $16/hr for some jobs. At least that’s what they’re advertising. I thankfully found a job at a small mutual company servicing a few regional states. No micromanagement, no egos, offered me adequate pay and I’m actually treated like a human..as opposed to a farm animal.

It's bad right now because leadership fails to do anything about it. It's like living in a 5 million dollar home and budgeting $2.00 a month for upkeep. The home will eventually look lie a tu-d stye.

I would agree claims is in a bad place right now, but a union is never a good thing. Union representation only works out for the unions, that forces everybody to pay their dues. If it's so bad for you, find a job doing something else. The Farm isn't forcing you to stay.

As soon as I find another job I'm leaving. This environment is unworkable. They have pushed us to far. We are people with lives and family's. Manegment can take days off at the drop of a dime but we are forced to work overtime and can't get a day off even if we plan 3 months ahead. A Union is definitely needed. They will never change unless we take action!

Tell me when and where to show up! I know a bunch of my coworkers who have talked about this very thing. We need representation. We obviously are just numbers to leadership. Sign me up!

I know a number of employees who are ready to quit!! We would all join a union. The management in this department should be held accountable. I wouldn't let them manage my kids lemonade stand......Union or Bust!!!
