And how do you know what your SM is doing in their office? Really..how do you know? Answer..you do not
My store manager just sits in his office on his phone. Not sure what company work is getting done texting, and playing games and looking at social media.
I am a SM and there isn’t one hourly that knows what the SM job really is.. I throw freight, I process trucks, I pull and pack CDS’s.. even jump on a register yet I still have employees that have their hands in their pockets and rarely greet… the work ethic of todays youth is pathetic at best… I recently had one employee say he could be a manager here, I laughed… tossed him my keys and said your up… needless to say he said no way I don’t want that…
“If you all think your SM is so bad, try doing their job!! There is a REASON WHY YOU ARE A PART TIMER CRYING!! I am in Management but Not an SM. Most SM's bust their coolo every freaking day and still have to deal with your lazy coolo' crying and holding the rest of the store back! Please STFU and leave!”
THIS!!! THIS TOXIC BS is why associates are un-happy. I just left BBBY, as a manager, and the disdain and contempt I had to hear everyday from my peers was sickening. You may think you are subtle but they hear this. The toxic culture that is allowed to flourish is what will ultimately prevent the company turn around.

My store manager is great!!! He’s trying to get the team excited about walking through the doors everyday!!!
Some of the store managers may be part of the problem for those specific stores.
Corporate stupidity is why we are where we are as a company.
Is it acceptable that a company ,in the business of exchanging goods for cash, is fundamentally unable to accomplish this because the pos system fails on a regular basis.
Mission critical?
You’d think it should be.
When was the last time you had a business unable to process a credit card transaction?
I mean they can do it on phones now.
We have carbon slips to take imprints and most of the cards aren’t even embossed anymore.
It’s embarrassing.
“There is a lot being thrown at store managers.”
F them!
They are part of the problem.
I worked in Corporate. My manager was, and still is, a di-k.
There is a lot being thrown at store managers. Really depends how they delegate and who they have to delegate to. Never mind what volume the store is. Are they ordering, hiring, scheduling, mapping ? What about freight, rtv’s, front end? And now there’s a fun calendar? Can some one just answer the phone ? Oh wait... the 17 year old covering the box has never had a regular job. Need to teach them how to answer the phone. Need to teach them that they need to answer the phone. Need to hope they actually answer the phone. Need to hire another new ($10) worker when the freshly trained cashier gets hired at Target for $15 an hour.
There is way to much put on our plate to accomplish. Maybe if the store Manager would come down from her office and help.
Our team gives her a 50, just for showing up.
Can we give negative grades?
That’s what the manager of Gainesville should earn!
I personally think that less than 10% would deserve it.
