Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Off brand, weird merchandise…

What’s with all the random off brand apparel, home fashions/soft home, small appliances, etc, etc. merchandise is flowing, but it is some of most random assortments I’ve seen. These no-name brands must be desperate to provide product to Sears/Kmart. Went to the Orlando, FL Sears and they had some strange merchandise & brands. Even had a display of random vitamins, healthcare products and sporting goods. Had small USB connector personal fans by the register and the most random assortment of sports team apparel/merchandise from teams all over the country. Must be getting cheap merchandise from somewhere…

Speed Queen is a long-established brand of washers and dryers. You will find their machines in many laundromats.

The brands at Kmart these days are hilarious. Last time I was in Avenel they had end-caps full of Brentwood-brand irons and coffee makers and in the HABA aisle they were selling “Basic” brand Dandruff shampoo, made in China. It’s kinda like a cross between Dollar Store merchandise and Big Lots. If you have ever shopped at a Rose’s, then that is basically what today’s Kmart is like.

Speed Queen are a great machine and worth the price. Google is your friend.

@hun Less prone to theft, less prone to sales, more prone to markdowns, more prone to profit losses.

Sears & Kmart are kind of like a Ross or big lots (except both of those stores have much better selection) these days. They are likely getting cheap overstock, mismatch, last season, etc. also likely consolidating merch left over from closing stores and whatever can be found in warehouses.

They're probably consolidating the remaining stock they have left over from all the stores that closed, and stuff they've had remaining somewhere in storage. All that merchandise from the Manhattan store that just closed had to go somewhere too. They've all turned into a real rummage sale dumping ground.

USB fans...reminds me of the days when we were putting boxes of hand soap and toilet paper in the walk aisles.

"customer left looking confused and annoyed."

It's good that the customer left. The chances of actually getting a washer from Sears are not good

OP here, one other thing- they moved appliances downstairs to where tools was. Tools is now one wall off to the side and appliances/mattress/sporting goods is the rest. Sporting goods had some random ‘sunny’ brand exercise machines. Very small assortment of major appliances with some ‘take with’ available. overheard a customer asking the associate how to buy a washer and also asked if this was the entire selection. Associate said, “what you see is what we got. we are closing in 15 min, and you don’t want this one, trust me” customer left looking confused and annoyed.
