Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Are you satisfied with the skills you developed here?

I really liked someone’s motivational post that the skills someone has developed here are more valued than people think. Yes, X has mostly ruined people’s self-esteem. However, we should also be realistic. I don’t think I’ve managed to develop some particularly valuable skillset here that is marketable. I'm not satisfied. In another company I might have been able to grow a much better skillset.

The only thing you’ll get here are salty people with no future. Don’t be like them. Look at what you’ve done and identify the genetic skills. If you don’t xeroxize them you’ll be fine. I was. I left for a much better situation. It’s all in your perspective. Go into a interview all sour about xerox and you’ll be shoved out the door very quickly. No one wants salty.

“Invaluable Traits?” I’d like to see a list of those!

Spin selling and six sigma nonsense? No sustainable companies out there are interested in Xerox’s dirty ole bag of 90’s boomer Jedi mind tricks.

Yes, unlike the other weak minded individuals that post on this site (most of which are competitors trying to stir the p-t anyway). Everybody’s situation is different but I’ve always had strong managers that have taught me invaluable traits. It’s up to you what you do with them, but I know I can apply them wherever I go when I choose to leave.

Yes, learned Xerox double speak while spewing nonsensical data to confuse investors and financial markets.

Learned how to take a once good company and run it in the ground. However, I don't need that skill set, I retired while the getting was good.

Developed a finely tuned BS detector as well as first hand knowledge of a horrible run company that now exists for invester enrichment not a joke, these will be useful skills to have when looking for a new job. if you sense Zerox-like behavior run away

Having to work 3-4 jobs at once and deal with the stress of a hostile job environment like Xerox is a skill everyone takes with them from Xerox. Other than that it is role specific.

I think this largely depends on what you do.

If you come in as a field technician with very little or no experience? You will learn a ton very quickly if you want to.

Probably some other areas are no as educational.
