Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Annual Performance Raises are coming in the next few weeks. lets discuss titles / current salaries to see where we stand in the US market

I know many people in my department are underpaid at globalfoundries and unhappy. They are also looking for new opportunities at other companies. we work in the cleanroom as technicians and senior technicians mostly and make 50k - 65k (at the highest annually.) after globalfoundries have had their "most profitable year ever" we are not very hopeful that raises will be any better in terms of inflation and cost of living.

It is hard, some of us have family here and don't want to move, but at the same time globalfoundries really does not pay its workers like they want them to work here forever. seems like broken promises and tricks after 8 years of service. I feel badly for the new hires as well. we all feel on the same page when it comes to lack of compensation from this company. we just want them to do the right thing and do what is fair.

your thoughts?

Maybe some of us get lucky here, but when most average-rated workers received 1-2%, that’s pretty pathetic compared to the corporate national average, especially during a year with >5% inflation, largely increased minimum wage, and an amazing profit.

Everybody's in a hardship at GloFo, so some people had to go moonlighting... like Tom just did...

Wow less than 2% raise after our best year, and fabs are all overloaded. Pathetic. Now that schools are out I expect even more colleagues to quit and go to greener pastures. No one left that knows anything already and just getting worse day by day in malta

Like anywhere, it is all about the initial deal of your hire. If the salary isn't great at the time of your hire, don't accept. The average worker cannot count on great raises from companies anymore. Move to where the good initial deal is.

Tech 5 in one of the equipment maintenance departments. My base is right around $100k. On top of that they average about 10% of your gross in bonuses each year. I am nowhere near underpaid. Insurance is expensive but I think that is true everywhere. 401k is standard and they start you with 3 wks of vacation which is generous. GF has been great to me. My biggest complaint is their new woke agenda. Pushing diversity, BLM and the 1619 project is pretty disgusting. If it continues I won't be able to work here anymore.

many are underpaid , a Level 7 engineer SMTS , salary can range from 105K to 185K .. so go figure ...

a Level 6 Engineer can range from 85K to 110K

the higher you go .. the wider the range ...

a NCG at Level 4 engineer gets about 78K starting

our 401K sucks... under prudential .. our medical benefits sucks ...

I started as a mid-level tech and am now mid-upper level engineer making almost double what I started at ($~110K). Mobility didn't exist in my team at first, but with good management and HR loosening restrictions, it happened (actually attrition and desperation created opportunity, I capitalized). Took a pay cut moving from hourly to salaried and under handshake agreement was promised that if I prove myself I'd be taken care of. That's been true through 3 different teams (same unit) and 5 different managers in 6 years. I guess there's a disparity between different departments.

Anyways, GF has been generous to me, but it's not like it happened without effort and self-sacrifice. I'm burnt out and bored, and looking for something different. Haven't heard back from TSMC but only applied a week ago. Looking at Pharma jobs too.

Also rumor has it Cree and GF agreed not to actively recruit each other's employees. Plenty of openings there if you can bear living in Utica. TSMC has tons of openings too and you probably spend at least 6 months in Taiwan (pro or con, you decide). SAS, too, but I hear it's worse there.

Profit sharing is an integral part of the compensation in other semiconductor companies, but not in GloFo, where all the rewards for the “most profitable year ever” go SLT,
the very same senior leaders who should be held responsible for poor business decisions resulted in IBM $2.5B lawsuit – about $180,000 in losses per employee if divided equally between all of us. Here’s our annual raises go.

Senior Technician - litho. was making 62k annually. after getting a cost of living raise back in 2019 i applied for a company out in Texas. full benefits, 401k, 78k annually now doing pretty much the same. Glad the employees here are actually talking about their wages openly, you'll be shocked how many of you are being underpaid and overworked. I still keep in touch with some of my old colleagues there that have had to pick up the responsibility that GF created for them after the Pivot. They still have not been compensated fairly for the work they are doing. Cost of living is lower here so it was worth the move, If you feel you are not being compensated properly for your work, then you probably aren't. don't be afraid to go elsewhere.
