Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

This changed things for me

I wasn't looking before now. I wasn't too happy here but this is the company I know and I thought starting over somewhere else would be too much unnecessary work at my age. But after the latest announcement, I realized I have no intention of spending the next three years worried if I'll be PIPed and fired for no reason. It's one thing to worry about being laid off with severance and a completely different thing to worry about getting shown the door with no compensation. Something tells me I'm not the only one who started looking for a new job over this.

FIRE is a liberating lifestyle. Good to have a big pile of duck you money so you are beholden to no one.

OP - And that is ok. In fact it is great that you are taking action. I wish more people on this board would. No reason to be unhappy. Life is too short. You have options. If ExxonMobil isn’t the best one leave. If it is maybe you should figure that out and quit comparing it to something that doesn’t exist in the real world.

Start saving your money and living well below your means if you don't already.

I really need to take time to update my resume. However, cursory search for work ain’t showing much out there for me.
