Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Will Power 11 ever be delivered?

Hardware (chip design) is losing people
OS (Linux) is losing people
So OS (AIX) is last hope?

Problem is IBM's not even able to license the ip because everyone licenses ARM these days

The few customers who still care about Power are being forced by all this uncertainty to make plans for the future that do not involve IBM. Those customers will not come back.

IBM truly believes in farming the IP for their older technology. It’s how they extract their past investments. They will continue down the Redhat strategy as they invested in that.

Will probably just be an IP license arrangement. Like Samsung makes the chips today, someone else will manufacture and support the servers and all pay a license fee to IBM.

Nope it wont. IBM's heavily dropped the ball on this one.

It won't function correctly even if it's delivered.

Follow the money Samsung has invested quite a sum to get P10 out the door. I can’t imagine they would let Power 11 slip away without trying to recover their investment (Niche that it is).

It is hard to say.
Sources say they may switch from Power ISA to ARM or Intel if Intel licenses them, most likely switching to ARM because they are in touch with ARM to discuss the licensing stuff.
