Thread regarding Norfolk Southern Corp. layoffs

I couldn’t even wait for retirement here

I didn't have much time left until retirement and I thought to be patient and endure the situation here a little longer, however, I gave notice. That says a lot about NS, place where people leave even though they are about to retire. I believe there are more such cases? I was very lucky so I got a new job, and if I hadn’t, I really don’t know how I would have managed to spend even that little remaining time here.

You can't put in a notice. They escort you off the their property immediately.

Why give any notice? Would they give you notice?

How much time left until retirement? You’d be foolish to leave if close!! Between me and my wife we bring home $6500 a month from Rrb. I don’t think you were very close!!

I call b/s on this one. Nobody that close to retirement is going to break their currant connection with the railroad. They would go on disability
