Thread regarding IBM layoffs

IBM does not understand its competition?

Amazon ECS Anywhere, Azure Arc, Google Anthos, the hyperscalers are all in on hybrid cloud now. IBM is going to need a lot more than just RH OpenShift and CloudPaks to counter them. Meanwhile IBM leadership delusionally still thinks VMWare is the main competition here.

This somewhat older post was especially interesting to me. I often wonder if leadership doesn’t understand their competition or just can’t do anything to counter the growing real competition?

Hybrid Cloud - just another artificial market segmentation than none of the execs quite understand - but they can read scripted bullets as well as the next _________ (feel free to fill in: recent MBA, recent foreign promotion, recent 'competitive hire')
And Cloudpaks are just licence bundles to try to show 'market share' of a 'hybrid cloud's market nobody else defines or measures (no diff than ibms several years of Bridge-to-Cloud BS)
It's peas under the shells and all about the lingering, shrinking mainframe customers.
Keep squeezing those mframe custs.. all you have left really after you run all those acquisitions into the ground

IBM think it has NO competition... it thinks it is the default winner when it comes to hybrid cloud. This is what you will keep on hearing from IBM...

On the other hand, the real competitors (Google, AWS, MSFT), they don't need to brag for anything, they just get things done and make billions.

Good luck IBM!!

IBM can't identify its competition until it knows what business it's in. For years now IBM has been swinging from market to market, strategy to strategy. If it ever decides what it wants to be, only then can it look at competition.

One point of correction:

Only IBM is "all in" on hybrid. The others do have hybrid, and each is deadly competition to IBM, but not the focus of even the cloud units of those other companies.

Put a different way, hybrid cloud is one checkbox of many for the big cloud players. For IBM, it is the only checkbox.

And yes, we are still losing the battle.
