Emerson Goes Woke

I am curious if I am the only one fed up with this woke BS that we’re seeing within Emerson? I’m not surprised at all based on the leadership throughout, but enough is enough. If you’re white, straight and a Christian you need to be on your best behavior. These days it’s all about diversifying and inclusion by adding more people of color, homosexuals and women into leadership. How is this fact alone not sexiest or discriminatory? Seriously, we’re no longer about making the best products in the world, our focus is now on how “woke” we can be. It’s so sad that leadership wants to divide us and put us into our own “boxes”, but how can these people in the ivory tower not realize this? I sure do miss the “good ole days” where we could just work side by side regardless of race or gender, but now the focus is on segregating us so we can check a box up top. Leadership pushes this agenda but wants to scratch their head when internal surveys aren’t favorable! Just for the record I have no issue with anyone in different “categories” than I, but will others give respect or just believe you got where you are due to the color of your skin, gender or se-ual preference? Go woke, go broke.

Wow! Sorry I didn’t find this sooner. Emerson quietly began its diversity/ dei (discrimination against whites) policy around 12 years ago. Emerson valve automation was predominantly filled with white workers who cared about the company when it was in Waller Tx. Then moved to Houston and began getting rid of whites. I used to walk the entire shop and take a count. 65 Hispanics, 42 blacks, 2 Indians, 1 Asian and 15 whites left. Then after being harassed constantly by woke hr and supervisor/manager I finally quit! I was number 7, there were only 6 white men left. Sad but true!

100% done with it. When I see how many manhours are wasted on putting on LGBT events that are poorly attended, I have to scratch my head.

To fly the rainbow flag with the US and State flag...disrespectful.

I found it quite amusing when they gave people extra time to fill in the survey. I replied--maybe you should just go with what you have--you didn't have to solicit those responses.

Also I found the unconscious bias "training" to be eye-opening...a good look into how HR is biased.

I think the expectation is to jump on the Woke bandwagon otherwise you will be seen as a discriminatory company. Many of the major corporations had changed their company logos to a rainbow version and then spouted some BS about how they believe in inclusive culture without showing any real tangible evidence that proves the said statements.

I am a white male working for Emerson in the UK and I support the environment that the new leadership seems to want to build.

The aggressive 'frat-bro' culture that seemed to exist at the top in the US previously was a big turn off for me.

LivingWoke is the person who had a problem with the original post, imagine that lol! Obviously you’re out of touch and live in your own little bubble. I am all for the best person or the most qualified getting the job, but I am not for a person getting the job or promotion due to their skin color, gender or se-ual preference. When we hear that we’re going to hire “x” percent of females or minorities to leadership before a specific year, how in the he-l isn’t that discrimination? I could care less what gender, se-ual preference or skin color you’re, I want the best person for every job to make this company most successful. If you believe playing politics with shareholder money is the right decision it’s your opinion, but I want the best person for every position. I don’t have a racist or sexist bone in my body, so quit trying to make me believe I do.

You guys see the email today from Froedge that said the 4th of July isn't as important as Juneteenth? Course , i guess we are just going to ignore that slavery still exists in oil ricj middle eastern nations, cause they buy our meters.
I bet that Emerson survey i filled out this week will really help.

Im ambivalent on it. Emerson is pretty white male dominated, so being more diverse is great. Quite frankly, i think its window dressing. Im continually short on resources, hire SOMEONE! stop trying to include the words diversity and inclusion to everything as though mentioning them does anything for my day to day. The company as a whole is so mismanaged, this is a drop in the bucket of righting the ship.

You are so right.... How could we actually expect a woman, person of color, or someone who doesn't worship god to actually be a good business leader of a multi-national company? Clearly that job is only made for White, Christian Men. I mean are you really THAT insecure?

This is the saddest and most ignorant post I've ever seen - like, vomit literally just came out of my mouth and I feel so very sad for you and how you seem to choose ignorance as a leading character trait. I am wondering if this is click bait or there are actually people who are this shallow?

If you mean the good ole days of the Christian, White man charging the up "leadership ladder" when he is completely and utterly unqualified but can hit a golf ball really far then please dear god let those days be gone. If you mean the good ole days when vile jokes and unwanted gestures toward women and underrepresented groups are tolerated because no one is ever going to discipline their golf buddy or hold them accountable to decency and respect then please dear god let those days be gone. (By the way, yes this actually happens!)

And when did "being on your best behavior" go from being a KIND, DECENT, AND TOLERABLE person to people who do not look like you or praise the same God you, to now try not to let a racist, homophobic, misogynistic, or just plain hateful comment come out of your mouth??? That intent of that statement is the antithesis of being on your best behavior. SERIOUSLY?!?!

I like when our HR lectures us about diversity. A department made up solely of middle aged white women telling us we need to diversify our depts.
I guess the new measurement solutions safety lady is doing the same. 5 guys quit, 5 women hired.

The top leader definitely is socially very liberal, driven by competition in any form, and focuses on the numbers before people no matter what the marketing propaganda puts out.

I'm with you. Loved the guys I worked with, but upper management is the biggest overpaid bunch of id--ts I have seen. Is it because they attended the GLI or have an MBA? Is it because they follow the latest mass media trends? It was much better Emerson was agnostic and didn't care about the your race or orientations, they just went after the best person for the job....err for the cheapest price.
