It’s because they can pay new people less money than keep people who have been there for a while making more money.

I worked for Sears in Port Arthur, Texas for 11 years as an L.P. Manager than as the Assistant Store Manager, we also were told to cut hours but hire new people. This happened about a year before the store closed for good. The store finally shut down about six years ago.

Hmm, because they can pay new employees less, if they do close, newer employees couldnt collect unemployment.

Hey, you stole my handle!
Meh, you can have it.
There was a two day job fair here, replete with govt and private industry employers and two, yes just two people showed up!
As many have said, if Belk is paying below the retail industry entry wage of $13-15, let alone fast food entry wages of $15, who or what will they get when hiring at $9-11?

Now I need a new persona. I liked "you know my name, look up my number", "monkey man", "dust bunny", maybe "RVP, really valueless person"?
