Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

WFH will be permanent soon

Oxy had a great chance of boosting company morale by implementing WFH permanently first amongst it’s peers. They could have been first to attract top talent and get the Company back on it's feet. They had a decision to make, and a year to plan for this decision and as always, they screwed it up.

However, EQT is the first domino in the O&G industry to implement WFH permanently, so Oxy is going to have to be a fast follower or lose their remaining good people to other companies that follow suit. It won’t be hard to get a job in Houston or Midland now without having to move to those undesirable locations.

I can't wait for the case study to come out on how Oxy ruined two companies within 3 years time. Their mismanagement of every little thing is baffling. The board needs to give up and sell Oxy for parts. These mouth breathers aren't doing anything but deteriorating value.

To the comment below, what do you care if others work at home or not? Oxy gave you the option to go in full time if you want. Stop telling other people they shouldn’t be allowed to work from home. Clearly you don’t call the shots since we get the BWP.

Great. Go work from home full time but not on company business. You have the option for a full work week at home doing laundry, dishes, shopping, and other projects around the house. Last time I checked this work does not pay the bills. Please do yourself a favor and get used to going back to the office. I hate to see peoples careers get negatively impacted in this way.

Time to wake up OP. Dream time is over. If you want to quit and go find a job where you can work in your PJs, please do so. There are dozens of people out there willing and ready to do your job, and a lot of them will do it without the constant whining. It’s beginning to be very clear that many in your generation ( not all thankfully) see themselves as much more important than they really are. If you can’t wake up out of your dream world on your own, reality is going to slap you in the face and wake you up. By the way, that’s a metaphorical slap for the site monitors.

Sounds like workers have gotten used to not interacting in the physical environment. People will have to learn to be socialized all over again. Sort of like when most of us had our first day of formal education in school at 5 years old. Only at that age it was expected to have trouble interacting and we were not getting paid tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars a year plus bonus and LTI to interact with our peers.

Who aspires to be EQT? WFH was a temporary situation to get through the pandemic. It’s over for the non Facebook world. Go put your application in at Facebook, otherwise get on the bus and get with the real world.

Is nobody going to speak up about the ridiculousness happening back at the office? People are going in and still preferring teams meetings. Not necessarily preferring but required anyway for various reasons.
But now the commute hours are unavailable for meetings or work.

No one cares what you have to say. Coming on these sites and making it looks like Oxy is undesirable is stupid. If you can’t go into the office 3 days and then be at home 4 days you are not worth hiring. Stop being so lazy.

WFH will go away once you immature whiners grow up and actually need a job to support your family. Then you will do just about anything legal, moral, and ethical to provide the large amounts of cash it takes to raise kids and keep your non-working spouse happy.
