Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

It's not easy

I was laid off about three months ago and I'm still having trouble coping with it. Finding a new job was not an issue, I've been working for the past two months. It's the fact that I was convinced I was doing well. I was always going the extra mile and my manager noticed, at least based on what he was telling me. The next thing I know, I'm out. How do you deal with that? How do you not let that affect your future employment?

Do not take it personally especially if you have had good performance reviews. If you do, it will eat you alive. Move on.

IT. IS. NOT. YOU.

This has nothing to do with you or your skills. This is very like an abusive relationship where one partner slowly belittles the other. Chipping away at all confidence. Eroding all self-worth.

For another analogy, it's like the Titanic. Many of the rich and powerful lived through it, while some wonderful, hard working people perished because of their position in life. Who lives and who is let go seldom has to do with worth.

I have found my way out. I now work for a company that values me and my opinion. Once again, I am considered an expert in my field. You can do it, too!! I promise you in a year from now, you will be thanking God for the "blessing" of being made redundant from such a terrible company.

We are all just a number on a spreadsheet it doesn't matter how good or how bad you are at your job, be happy you got out!!!

As already said, your manager almost certainly had no input. These decisions always come from at least a few levels above your first level manager. As a first level manager myself, it sucks. I would rather have a larger discussion for the organization as a whole, but certain job functions are declared unnecessary so it is what it is.

Your manager had no say. I had to let people go in 2019 and they made the decision 3 levels above me and it was all salary and YOS based. I was told to do it. It has nothing to do with you.

FYI I left 3 months later. I couldn’t deal with being left the awful employees when I had to let the good ones go.

Move on. Don’t let them(especially Xerox, of all places) define you.
