Your opinion on visit presentations

Red badge here, what’s your opinion on all the prep that goose into practicing speeches for deep dives and regional visits? I feel CSX’s and OVM’s spend and waste more time preparing to impress senior executives then make sure we give excellent service to our customers. What a waste of valuable time.

Self-promote yourself,
Kiss your boss’s a-s
&
Be fake and being LAZY is a huge plus.
Take credit for the successes (you had nothing to do with)
&
Blame others for all your shortfalls.
Recipe to be a successful manager at M.
Those that are not this, either find another job or are let go cuz having a genuine work ethic is a threat to the mediocrity management that thrive in this toxic work environment.

It’s good to deep clean, etc. but after every visit I literally don’t see anything different about the store I work in and I am not do anything different. Maybe the visits are about something else.

We have a regional visit in four weeks and our new DVP has everyone going crazy preparing. We have a high school band coming to the store and confetti cannons, we are ordering food for the regional team when we don't have any money in the employee engagement account. Every store has to buy things and plan crazy events to cozy up to the regional team. Most of these people are literally millionaires, why are we spending the few bucks the company gives us for our poor hourly people just to brown nose the regionals?

Part of a visit is the store snaps back into shape, don't believe for a minute that the upper VP's think that the stores look that way a majority of the time.

FYI. Sometimes High Level Senior Managers will visit stores the day before a scheduled visit. It depends on their flight scheduling and how motivated they are to make Macy's a top notch business. It also allows them time to talk to Macy's employees on a less formal basis. While some would argue that these visits are a waste of time, I would suggest that they help to set high standards and for some stores it is the only time that they really look top notch.

Oh stop "red badge". What's wrong with OVM's preparing for a regional visit? Did you say they need to focus on the customer experience? Isn't that your job "red badge"? Regional visits are important and the OVM's are running the start teams, receiving, dealing with the VPSM, AND I see them behind the registers. What are you preparing for?

These visits should ONLY be done un-announced so that upper management gets a real picture of the store and how it is being staffed and run. Period. I know they all know the game, but still- how is anything ever going to get fixed if those in charge never learn how broken it is?

I like that there is an "on the spot" $500 to $1000 bonuses they give to the OVMs when the store looks great and they presented well. Nobody on the floor hears about them. It's awarded in the wrap up. OVMs work so hard, well deserved!

I agree 100%
We waste time prepping and barely get face time with the upper management. When it comes down to it we should just be able to give them the basics and discuss talent and how the"big wigs" can support US. They have the reports to dig deeper into things.
I BOMBED my very first big visit because my store manager psyched me out and had me stressing over the wrong things. It was a terrible experience.

I had a sales supervisor hang over top of me until i finished organizing the plastic bags to look good for the uppers who sit on a computer all day prolly playing angry birds.
meanwhile the stock room is a mess, sales are in the toilet , star rewards are down. etc.
so the big wigs are looking for organized bags? really? total waste of time ..

I always liked the prepping..I didnt feel embarrassed working there..store was clean and managers actually workec and store manager couldnt hide un her office all day. Sometimes executives would ask us questions..would make everyone so nervous!
