I had asked my manager what the process was on transferring into another BU. He basically told me not to bother with the process because he wouldn’t approve it. Is there any way I can get a transfer without his authorization? If not then I will need to find another company because he and I are like oil and water.

I just did a transfer. I would do a little research and find out who the hiring manager is and try to connect ahead of time. You can always do an informal zoom with them first to try and make a connection. If your boss gives you push back I would go to HR and ask if there is anything in your file that would prevent such a transfer. If not I would say sc--w it and just apply to it anyway. They always say the whole “you have to get HR and your boss to approve any application” it’s a BS scare tactic.
Depends which location. not all are treated equal.
You are free to apply. If you have a network in another BU you should be able to find a home. If you went into your managers office and said I want out of here and you don't have a network in the spot you want to land you likely won't get the job. Some level of gamesmanship is required to navigate the Pepsi vulchers.
Only if you go in and tell him; "say hello to my little friend".
you have to apply internally for another role and you know how that goes. No where !
