Thread regarding Ascension Health layoffs

Class Action Lawsuit?

Aren't we still in a pandemic?

Joseph Impicciche, president and chief executive officer of the St. Louis-based health system, informed its nearly 160,000 employees that it will protect their pay and not lay off employees during the pandemic. The protection includes employees who cannot work because they have been diagnosed or are suspected of having COVID-19.

“Ascension is committed to protect the pay of associates during this time of disruption from COVID-19, including a commitment to no layoffs and a variety of pay protection programs, and will continue doing so as long as possible,” Impicciche said.

Can we do something to hold ascension liable for their immoral unethical choices? They continue to find ways to hide how cost saving initiatives negatively impact patient care. Don't believe me, find out for yourself. Search your email while you can for any incident in the past that was labelled as impacting patient care, then go to service now and try to locate it. Friday while I was training TechM to do my job, I was unable to find any incidents whatsoever. Usually, it's just a few that were deleted, but not I think my access was deleted. Which is making it impossible to do my job which has completely changed by the way as now we are just trainers. But we do business as usual so I will be dropping my kids off at their dads in the morning so I can work on an urgent regulatory ticket because shadow training begins Monday morning. Can't wait for this trauma to end. If any attorneys have advice, please comment and I will send you my personal email. Too afraid to share it here and face Ascensions wrath.

"Patients may not care where IT is, but how does Ascension get away with funneling all of the money it saves on taxes into for profit businesses? Don't they basically even have an investment banking division now? Healthcare is bankrupting America, and the largest Catholic hospital system is worth billions."

Ascension gets away with this because no one is stopping them. We are divided and silenced. The more ways they can find to cut costs, the more healthcare systems they can absorb. The more they have the leading edge on competitive prices so no other healthcare system can compete. We can complain, but if we do nothing to stop it, we are just as bad as they are. Hi---r got away with genocide bc no one stopped him either. How many more patients need to die for undocumented reasons before someone say something.

I believe we will be giving up legal right to sue in the severance agreement. They mentioned having us have an attorney review it in this morning's "Associate Next Steps: Documents" meeting.

We are working with Morgan & Morgan if anyone is interested before signing rights to sue in severance agreements.

In response to how they spend their money, 5.5m was dropped for a 30 sec superbowl commercial in Feb. Keep in mind Ascensions presence is in only 18 states. Very expensive marketing campaign targeted to the entire US.

@2iyy+1bT25Wh5 - You are absolutely correct. Also, I will add if the clinical types, especially doctors, are ever unhappy with the IT support they are being given, there will be changes made but until that, patients don't care...

Yeah. It sucks. But it’s business. Nothing personal.

Find a better place and pursue happiness.

Patients could give a rats a$$ where our IT support is based.

Now if there is a loss in patient care then whoa buddy.

In the meantime, find something else and tell Gerry or Edwardo that they are number one with your center finger!

They may not be worth suing, but all of their patients and the public should know how they spend the money they save by not paying taxes, among other things. And I do believe sincere Christians would be apalled by Ascension's blatant anti Christ like behavior and business dealings. Sunlight is the ultimate disinfectant.

@vxl+1bT25Wh5 - Disney got in trouble because they used foreign H-1B visa holders to replace US-based, onsite employees which is a no-no. Also, Disney did not have a release of claims clause in their severance agreements so there was no penalty for the former employees to sue them. The foreign employees that Ascension is using are ALL India-based employees which is how they are getting around that...

It's not worth it. Per my understanding, Ascension had originally planned to unveil their outsourcing plan early in 2020 but then the pandemic hit and they took PPP loans from the US Government which were forgivable loans as long as they kept everyone on the payroll until Sept. 30th or Oct. 1st, 2020 (don't recall which date.) So they announced it in August of 2020 (due to the 60-day WARN Act requirement) and the first separations occurred on Oct. 17th.

I don't think anyone has a legal leg to stand on but do you really want to work for a "Christian Organization" that does this to their employees. Move forward, put Ascension in your rearview mirror. Go ahead and train your TechM replacements and preserve your severance package and do not openly disparage Ascension in a way that can be traced back to you because the severance package has a clawback clause in it...

HR, talent recruiter, so many are outsourced.

They’ve been planning this for quite some time and will justify it was a planned as reduction and not pandemic related

Do not email your info to anyone on this thread. Find a local attorney and ask for a consultation.

Don't quit without a job in place. It will hurt you more in the long run.

Concentrate on finding another job and do not internalize let Ascension's callous disregard for you and others. They are in the wrong and they will have to repair---if they can, the fallout. A year from now you will be in a much better place and hearing stories about how the Ascension Titanic went down.

This is wrong. It's one thing to reorg but the trauma they have been putting us through is painful. I have considered losing severance and quitting without a job lined up just for mental health. HR is of no assistance.
