TL;DR Walmart fired an employee with Down syndrome who worked there for 16 years. A jury said it should pay her $125 million.

A federal jury determined on Friday that Walmart violated the Americans with Disabilities Act when it fired an employee with Down syndrome following issues related to her work schedule.

After a four-day trial in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the jury awarded Marlo Spaeth $125 million in damages. Before her termination, Spaeth worked at Walmart for about 16 years.

A Walmart spokesperson told Insider the verdict was expected to be reduced to $300,000, which is the maximum amount allowed under federal law.

Walmart is Notorious for changing people's schedules and putting people on different shifts without consulting the employees. Changing the rules every year. They like confusion!

Laws need to be changed so there are real penalties for corporations. Both political parties are bribed by the corporations though.

My son is going through the same with a grocery chain....I feel no matter what he is screwed win or lose. They hire and get a tax incentive to hire a disabled person and treat them like cr-p....my son has worked for 15.9yrs....I wont stop until they get what they deserve. They put employees through a ton of training...(i.e. se-ual harrassment, safety, etc) they need to train employees/management how to treat people with disabilities. Unless, you have a love one with a disability.....no one understands to pain, suffering, awful treatment they endure on a daily basis....

This is why walmart donates and hires people from whatever political party is in power at the time to their corporate boards.

That's sad. The attorney will get 40 percent and walmart will make their life miserable if they decide to come back to work. They'll probably offer a messed up shift with unobtainable goals.

Hopefully justice will be served. A good discrimination attorney will get more. Walmart usually tries to run out the clock and tie it up in courts praying that the person will die before they have to pay anything. It happened at sams club in Las Vegas. An employee broke her hip in the bakery freezer because they didn't fix a water leak for 3 years. Walmart tied it up in court for 16 years and the employee who was already old died and walmart didn't have to pay a dime. I hope this girl gets the millions deserved and goes on to live a productive and happy life

@1thf You hit the nail on the head. There are no incentives to follow the law by corporations. The punishments are peanuts. Companies actually plan for fines for their violations because it is cheaper than obeying the law. My suggestion is to start punishing companies by % of profits.

Absolutely insane that federal law caps this to $300k. That's peanuts to a company like Walmart so where's the incentive to follow the law?
