So we have a bunch of "Captain's" in our store. Can someone tell me what is the role of the Captain? We have a new manager that is so overwhelmed that she hides from our department. No one ever sees her on the selling floor. It seems like the "Captain" is the answer to her prayer. What an earth is the Captain role besides having override abilities? Please, can someone explain the role? Thank you!

Im a captain and I didn't get a pay raise when I was given the job. I went from being a MTL last year to becoming the dock captain. From what I understand all the captains i know were former leads.
A captain at Macy’s is someone who is stuck doing their bosses job for them. Simple concept
The captains role is to stay on board when the ship sinks. How fitting for Macy's to create those titles.
Given the level of shoplifting in the stores i guess Macy's has pirates too!
There should be a fog ho-n at closing time!
We don’t have any supervisors in our store that turned into captains. The former leads were turned into captains and were given raises.
No they didn't get an extra $1.00. the former supervisors took pay cuts to go to captain jobs last year. New captains got nothing extra, it's just a title.
So their are Selling Captains, Logistics Captains, Fulfillment Captains, and Visual Captains. These are hourly jobs that used to be manager roles. The company had a great idea, change the title of the job, lower the pay range and call it a Captain job. Captains get an extra $1 an hour from their current pay rate to take on a whole bunch of key responsibilities with getting compensated in an equitable manner. These jobs are a great way to get experience in a role and then get a similar job at another employer for an extra $5 to $10 an hour.
Basically what the sales supervisor used to be before they got rid of the position. They are hourly and clock in like us and they are supposed to be assistant to the managers.
captains are the useless egomaniacs that think they are managers or tight with managers.
Elevated colleague position that supports managers with override capabilities.
