I’ve been trying to find a new job for a while now and I’m worried about getting laid off before I find something new. Unfortunately, I don't have any savings, and that’s perhaps the most important thing. Admittedly, at least I don’t have a lot of debts. I’m very worried and I don’t know how much I should trust people and their stories about how “they’ve never been happier and how layoff gave them a chance to find much better opportunities”. I’m a bit skeptical about such happy endings.

YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES,
It's called adapt to the changes in life. It happens every single day of someone's life!!! Stop worrying!!!
You will be fine!!!
Plan? Yes. I am so far in debt f I get laid off I will never find this good of a job. So I will probably just let them come repossess all my things then once they come for my house I will end it.
How can you guys stand being watched like a hawk? At our location , trainmasters sit in their truck and stare at us all day
I don't see how this company can possibly stress an agreement employee out? Why? The low level supervisors have it way more stressed than us. We can work at are own pace. Anyone that busts their a-s for this company is a complete fool. No job is so important, so urgent, that we cannot perform our job safely. This is their motto. SLOW DOWN!!! They can't touch you for working at your own pace while doing it safely. Period!
They are working us to death and are so short of T&E ppl. Get a conductor job
It’s called being a man and pulling your big boy pants up. Don’t let the railroad control your world. 20 yrs ago it was worth the layoffs to come back, now it most definitely isn’t. I worked there 15 years, got furloughed last year. They called me back few weeks ago and I never returned the call. The ones on here saying we’re trolls are simply in denial that it is possible to find another great career away from the railroad. Would you rather chase a retirement that not many get to enjoy while being stressed day in and day out wondering if you’ll have a job next month or live happy and stress free at an actual stable job. I’d pick the latter any day.
Yeah no plan here, except to move on! If it happens, it happens! I would be surprised if the layoffs either slow or stop altogether though. The STB is now very involved with the industry, and are indeed asking questions about the effects of PSR, service issues with every RR, and the uptick in derailments. There's supposedly an investigation being started because of PSR. I doubt anything will come of it, but it's a nice image to see the tables being turned on the RR's.
Yeah what he said stop being so legal bro it’s time to partayyyyy
Just do what I do and party and worry about tomorrow the day after b-a
A job at the railroad is not the be all end all of jobs. People whether they be former railroaders or anything else wake up everyday and work at a job that provides well for themselves and their families. I'll be the first to admit the railroad is a good paying job with nice benefits. However most would agree that the quality of life at the workplace is pretty bad. Considering how long a person spends at a job it is rather sad that most of us are not happy. The furlough have been going on now for over two years, I know quite a few people who have lost their jobs and it has not meant their financial ruin. If a person is willing to work whether this job or another their is always money to be made. Best of luck all.
You are right to be skeptical of what’s on here. But don’t give up. Good things can come from bad situations.
Keep tryin., I did and found better work
I was laid off almost two years ago at first it was devastating. But after awhile I found a new job it was less per hour but with all the railroad cr-p they pull out not much less. So sometimes life is hard but having weekend's with my family. Every holiday off and sleeping in my bed at night is nice.
Could you provide facts to back that up?
Half of the people that post on here about how good they have it now are either trolls that don't even work for the railroad or are people that still work for the railroad but are trying to get people to quit so that they move up in seniority. I would be skeptical about what is posted on here good or bad
