Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Long suffering employees

I think there are a lot of them. Some have decided to leave Xerox after the first red flags and they have done so, while others have been seeing red flags for a while and intend to leave, but they are still there.
Honestly, how long have you been working at X and suffering here, just because you’re not determined enough to look for better opportunities? I don’t blame anyone, I just wonder why some people are so hesitant to walk out of this joke of a company.

I was let go at Xerox in 2018(IRIF) I was out of work 9 months. I was so tired and fed up with working with and for children who only thought what about me. I landed a new job in a total different field from printing and dealing with customer that Xerox wasn't listening to (another reason Xerox is in the shape its in today another was letting Karl Icahn on the board of directors ) their other biggest blunder. I am much healthier and happier since my Xerox days. All they know how to do today is destroy another once successful American born USA company and product. Good luck to all

I stay because I am overpaid for my contribution and could never get another job at this pay range.

I personally know many who stay who despite all of the other challenges
like their co workers
like their jobs
like the flexibility of working there
Like the opportunities it presents

I was one of those people but as soon as 2 of those things were no longer true I wasn’t going to wait for the 3rd and the 4th shoes to drop (so the speak). So if an employee is long suffering it’s on them for not making the scary leap from X to somewhere else. I also know people who have left just to leave finding themselves in a very similar or worse situation.

Those who do stay are staying because it's not their turn for an IRIF...yet. Upper level exec's stay because they are given a hefty bonus if they lose their job due to no fault of their own. Those upper level exec's who have left were given an amazing exit package deal if they left quietly. Those upper level exec's keep the non complainers and those who kiss up and pretend they know what they're doing. I saw MANY far better talented staff let go or leave on their own accord because they spoke up about needing a healthy work life balance and how the stress of doing others jobs impacted their health negatively. Karma will get those who mistreated the real honest hard workers. That's all I pray for.

Left after 27 years and a retirement age I wanted. When I see former coworkers they are afraid to leave and say "but I have 6 weeks vacation and 1 week personal time". My response is easy..I have 52 weeks vacation and don't live by a clock. Oh and I 401k saved and invested my 401 and RIGP wisely.

I left after 27 years. First few years were good. Then 12 years of no raises and the racial fears of management I left. Just rode it out till I hit 59 and had enough.

From my POV from the “core” that I work (this is for sales).. The top 10 sales reps, and by top I mean revenue generating and top income makers, are still with the company. zero of our top 20 has left in the last 30 months.

30 months ago is when our core switch to HCL.

Are our jobs a little bit harder and have a little more stress..? absolutely.

If there is a sales role in a different industry, that doesn’t need prior industry sales experience, that I can work from home, and can guarantee $90k-$150k annually.. please let me know!!!

Service is a different story.. our top 10 techs left over the last 24 months.. I have seen almost all of these techs already promoted into higher positions at their newer company.

Just because we work for the “X”.. doesn’t mean we all have it that bad..

If the grass is greener somewhere else.. I implore people to start letting others know where we should look.

Why am I at Xerox

  1. Love the challenges of my job
  2. My coworkers are awesome
  3. Easy commute
  4. Great work life balance with kids
  5. Def work with highly skilled up to date on their skills colleagues.

All these negative comments may be more reflective of the posters situation

The remaining staff left at Xerox are all B players and the bottom of the barrel who do not have competitive skillsets allowing them to seek better jobs or they are just too lazy to look to leave. The corporation recognizes this and it makes their decisions of mass layoffs so much easier.

If you are a long term employee, getting 6 weeks vacation at another company is probably near impossible. Also if you're long term, you are probably hanging on until whatever your target retirement age is. It's easier to keep working for a couple years and keep your vacation and maxed out pension, than to start over. I assume if you are age 50+, you're probably likely to just stay until you are booted or meet your own retirement goal.

Another issue is location. Some area's Xerox is in do not have many opportunities in the area.

Ageism is another factor too.

Why are people staying? There are a plethora of reasons why someone might stay: Pre-existing medical condition. Fear of the unknown. Short time to retirement. Accrued vacation/holiday time. Co-workers. Convenient commute. Long tenure / high pay. Non-transferrable skill set. Etc.

We are all in different places in our lives. You worry about YOU and stop casting stones at the people who decide to stay.
