I've been PIPd and it was very unpleasant, the brief conversation.
About 5 minutes – with my current (3 mo) Supervisor and also his predecessor (2 yrs) laying it out – timing, meaning, encouragement.
I actually like the current S. So I saved the digs for the predecessor. No details, but this person now aware of the failure to communicate on any human level.
At any rate, that was yesterday.
Today, I spoke with only one coworker about the situation.
I’ve been a mentor for this coworker as we’ve worked together (4 yrs).
I’ve got almost 2 decades and they’ve got 6 years.
We’re Professional/Technicals.
This person asked a very simple question, but I blabbered on for several minutes.
The question was: ‘What do you think has been important in your Career with EM?’
(And here goes me, after a pause while pretending to chew my lunch):
Mainly waiting. The waiting was probably the main element.
Waiting for assignments, in the beginning.
Waiting for a pat on the back – first from people that I respected, but then pats from people other people respected. Long waits and short ones.
Waiting for the raise, the level ups on occasion and always the pats.
Waiting for the training, the travel, the social gatherings.
Waiting for the news, the reorgs, the new model. New ways of waiting.
And the annual review – the back-mind of every waiting – always in the fo-e-mind.
Well – now I can stop waiting.
My comrade laughed and we’ve planned a dinner out on my last day in office.
