Can we ever trust management again? I keep wondering at what leaves the trust is lost. I am confused when I hear people at high levels of the organization say they can’t make decisions and are waiting for others to decide. Does Darren decide everything? Who decides when raiders come back for example. Who decides what the PIP percentage should be? Who is making all these decisions?

Who ever trusted management?
Her backstabbed you.
That's no executive - that's a prosthetic device!
Nope. My supervisor got several of us to trust her with career concerns then she turned around and backstabbed us all sharing what we told her behind closed doors.

Here's a couple of audibles on how they climb their way up there.

Don't be silly.
If you need to subscribe to the 'Great Man' theory of leadership, well...
you ain't alone.
When I joined the company I remember I used to have a lot of reverance, admiration, and respect for the folks at the top. With passage of time this has changed. Im not sure I have any admiration for them anymore. Sometimes I think Im probably smarter than them. How did they climb up the ladder though?
Nope. My perspective about XOM has changed completely now after mishandling pips, recent layoffs, and those that remain. Hence, now I just see the money I receive from XOM for my work as another source of income that I will continue to get as long as I can. No longer loyal to the company, the mgmt., and nor peers. I will mind my business, do work asked for, receive paycheck and go home back to my REAL family!
