Thread regarding TIAA (TIAA-CREF) layoffs

Take it or run?

I am thinking of accepting a job offer in the technology group in NJ. Is there truth to the unlimited PTO and large bonus? Does it get paid out or do I have to fight for it? Is it too good to be true. What else should I know that no one tells you. Please share so I can make a educated decision. THANK you all.

I did see that. It is a shame. I would think a huge impact to bonus- they can use it as an excuse to cut them even if they don't need to.
When are bonuses paid out anyway?
Is there a % range that is normal for annual increases. Do they to the 3% that most companies try to get away with?

Did you see the recent settlement with the SEC? I doubt the company is going to be in a generous mood at bonus time.

You madea great point. I glimpsed at the financials and did not put 2 and 2 together. As you said, that money has to come from somewhere.
How is the culture in the nj office. It looks like you have a nice new building. How are the employees and are they happy there. Are people returning to the office or do they have flexibility? Does it have any good amenities?

Seeing as how their net income from 2019 to 2021 dropped from 1.6 Billion to $600 million, I would not count on any big bonuses coming early or easy. Bonus money paid to employees is money that could be allotted to extra declared amounts for participants. Those participants have not seen much growth in extra declared dividends recently. Plus, look into the 6 Billion in surplus notes TIAA is carrying. The 6 Billion needs to be paid back with interest. There will be no easy money for employees at TIAA ever again. Just my 2 cents.

thank you for responding.
I was told unlimited PTO- seems the time off policy changed within the past year? hope that isnt just for new hires
Are the bonuses prorated the first year? Do they tie into company and department performance and how often does that target get met? will I really see the fully value of the bonus or is there fine print?

Hi. Don't work in IT but I've been in this company for many years. Pto is not unlimited and the bonuses are good and it depends on what department you are in. I think between 1-5 yes you get 15 days. After that, it's an additional 2 days per year. Nothing comes easy... have to earn it! Make the best decision for you and only you!
