I hear stories about the company all the time, that it is lost, that nothing can be fixed, that it is doomed, that stores are closing, the atmosphere is terrible and toxic... and I can't help but notice that most people still take their job very seriously here. That is why people still care a lot about a company that doesn't care about them in the least and where they will get laid off sooner or later.
I’ve come to terms with the fact that I only work here temporarily and put in very little effort accordingly, I don’t stress about things I can’t change, nor do I care much why this company’s strategy is so wrong.

Very seriously. I’ve always worked with high fashion and ensure my socks match for my best Belk clientele.
I agree. I do my part and go home. The staffing and strategy are a joke. Some employees are used to when things were commission based and still think with that mindset. With one person for every four departments how seriously do they want us to take it? Can't be too seriously 💁🏻♀️
Your work ethic and approach is part of the problem. Some of us have had many years invested in Belk; some long time family supporters of the brand and/or healthy careers that supported our families and have been part of Belk’s integral part of southern communities. Prior to Sycamore purchase, Belk was a strong leader in the retail community and held it’s market share compared to other leading brands following it’s clients migration. They only brought their C and D stores. For those of us who know the history and are in our senior years close to retirement, yes, we do believe. We’ll stick it out to the bitter end with our returning in store clientele. Wouldn’t have said the same a year ago, even during holiday season, but they’re back! In the meantime brands have exited but newness too, and more to come. Retail was never a glamorous career and it’s never been a good option for “thin skin” imposters.
Thanks for adding your two cents, Karen.
